My condolence to the family. May you draw much comfort from God words that states "God is near to those that are broken at heart; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves." This is because he care about you.

My first wife, Judy King, was the first secretary of the Habitat for Humanity board. She worked with Mr. Umland and really thought highly of him. He was a man of vision and faith. Thousands of people in Houston have benefited directly from his effort.

I had the pleasure of working with Carl on an enhanced oil recovery project in Illinois. That was in the 1980-1984 time frame, and I was working for Exxon Production Research Co. I was also very impressed with his work with the Habitat for Humanity project.
