Joe and "Bennie"

September 30, 2011

Cub day, cub days, dear old golden pal days: Joe(first?? of course, my mom was den mother), George (Wilson), and Charlie (Charlton Hadden) and Bill(Tyler); then there were Harold (Hardy)and Bradley(Phair) and Gil--bert (Curry, Carlton's little "bubba). They are our buddies, everyone. When you're a cub, it's lots of fun, so come join the gang and be a cub, Akela(whoever he was) will lead us on." We sang(none of us could sing) this to the tune of "School Days". Every time I whistle(can't whistle either) "School Days", I think of Carlton.

Dear Margie - From as far back as I can remember, I knew Carlton as my Dad's very best friend. He was a great man, and my Dad loved him. It is so hard to imagine this world without the two of them in it, but I know without a doubt that they are together again telling stories about their wonderful times together and sharing lots of laughs. I wish I was there to give you a big hug. Please know that you and your entire family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Tricia - My thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family at this very sad time. May you find comfort and peace in the difficult days ahead.

October 6, 2010

Margie: We are both very sad, but have many fond memories of Carlton. At our 40th H.S. reunion, Joe was sitting with Carlton while Norman Brady was telling a great story about Georgie Jessel. Carlton said "Joe, the '52 class had the ugliest boys of any class that ever graduated from Lamar H.S. "Facetious" is great humor, and Carlton "nailed" it. Grant Krause has a "great" story about Carlton and George Pontikes at the Southside Place swimming pool. The members of the "49ers" Lamar football team were always a really close group, and Carlton was the "go to " member of that group. We will miss him and his wonderful sense of humor, but we won't forget him.
How much has our world changed in 70 plus years that we can communicate like this. We love you. "Bennie" and Joe

Mrs. Curry, Randy, and Family,

I was so sorry to hear of your loss. I last saw Carlton at my Mother's funeral this past summer. He was always a good friend and advisor to me and especially so after my Dad's passing some 20 years ago. We will always remember that he was there for us as kids at Westbury American Little League.

Though he is not physically with us now, your warm memories of him will help you through this time of sorrow. He was a good man, I will miss him.
