Carol Whitehead Obituary

Carol Whitehead
1944-2022
Carol Whitehead passed away on February 7, 2022 at age 77. She was born in San Antonio, where her father was stationed during World War II. Her family soon returned to Buffalo, NY, where she grew up, graduating from Cleveland Hill High School in 1962. She returned to Texas in the 1970s, first living in Corpus Christi before settling in Houston.
Carol spent decades working in the design industry in Houston, representing Lee Jofa fabrics and, later, Matt Camron Rugs. She cultivated relationships with interior designers throughout Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana.
Carol possessed a curious mind, a unique sense of humor, and a distinct and impeccable personal style. She had an upbeat nature and a warm, calming presence. She was a steadfast friend and aunt who inspired those around her to be their best selves. She loved bikram yoga, meditation, Mediterranean food, cats, baking, and taking brisk walks around Memorial Park. She was a regular patron of Houston's museums and theaters, particularly Main Street Theater in Rice Village. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Carol was preceded in death by her father, Harry Smolak and mother, Katherine Smolak. She is survived by her brothers Dan (Mary) Smolak of Derby, NY, and Paul (Debbie) Smolak of Elma, NY.
Her family will be holding an informal celebration of Carol's life at Café Lili in Houston on Saturday, May 28. All are welcome to attend. To RSVP for the memorial or for further details, please send an email to [email protected]
