Catherine Ann (Martin) Fogarty passed away on January 27, 2022, to join many relatives who preceded her to eternal life. Kate was born on April 27, 1930, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Hebert C. and Elizabeth Martin. Kate was named for her maternal grandmother from whom she felt she learned many of her life skills. She was an honor student in high school. She met her husband, Jack, during parish activities and they were married in 1950. Together, they raised seven children. The family moved to Houston, Texas, in 1965.
Kate was a devout Catholic who frequented daily mass and often prayed the rosary. She was always an active parishioner both in St. Cecilia's parish in St. Louis, and St. Thomas More Parish in Houston, where she was also the parish secretary for many years. She was a baseball fan and loved the Cardinals while in St. Louis but became an Astros fan in Houston. She was also a fan of any sports team her children or grandchildren were involved in. In addition to their sports activities, she attended countless extracurricular activities. She was an avid bridge player and was in many groups over the years including twice weekly groups which she played in until a month before her death with some of her good friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, children, Mary Elizabeth Lee and Joseph Martin Fogarty, and granddaughter, Emily Lee Szafarz. She is survived by her children Dr. James (Susan), Jerry (Lina), Jane Falk, Michael (Sally), John (Beth) and daughter-in-law Neala Fogarty, 16 grandchildren,16 great grandchildren with three more expected, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Thursday, February 3, at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home. The funeral mass will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, February 4, 2022, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
