Catherine Hanson Obituary

Catherine Anne Wells Hanson
10/08/1933 - 09/06/2022
Daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. A world traveler, regular bridge player, enthusiastic shopper, creative knitter, proud Carleton College alumna, and good neighbor.

Cass was first born daughter of Robert (RJ) and Georgia Wells in Muscatine, Iowa on October 8th, 1933. She was soon joined by her brother George. She grew up in Spencer, Iowa and attended Carleton College (graduating with the Class of 1955) where she made many life-long friends. She married Eugene (Gene) Hanson on February 12, 1961 and her adventurous life as the wife of a "doodle bugger" began in small Texas oil towns and eventually to exotic locations overseas. They settled in Houston, Texas in 1972 and enjoyed raising their children, traveling, and hosting many bridge parties. Later in life you could find them relaxing on the front porch with a glass of wine visiting with neighbors, or in Swea City, Iowa at the Hanson farm in the summers. There were always extra chairs to welcome friends to join for a visit and be reminded to slow down and enjoy life. The dining room was full at holidays as Cass loved hosting traditional family gatherings. She was an exceptional baker and her holiday pies were enjoyed by all.

She is preceded in death by her husband Eugene. She is survived by her son Jonathan and his daughter Emily (Viktor) Makarov and great grandson Jack; her daughter Anne (Lamar) Clemons and grand-daughters Catherine (Frederic) and great-grandsons George and Wells; Margaret (Tripp) Potter and great granddaughter Edie; grandson Reed and his fiancée Rachel; and her daughter Christina Hanson. She is also survived by her brother George Wells of Portland, Oregon.

She died peacefully after a short illness.
