Charles Henry Heider M.D.

CHARLES HENRY HEIDER, M.D., 75, of Nassau Bay, Texas, passed from this life May 8, 2004 with his family at his side. He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Stella and Henry Heider. Charles attended Del Mar College and graduated from the University of Texas with honors. He then attended Baylor College of Medicine, graduating with honors in 1957. He also received the Research Award in Pharmacology and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the medical honor society. After interning at Jefferson Davis Hospital in Houston, he completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia, then stayed to teach and do research as an Assistant Professor. While there, he received a fellowship from the American Heart Association. In 1964, he returned to Houston to enter private practice at the Sun Valley Clinic. He was on staff at Memorial Southeast Hospital where he served one term as Chief of Staff. In his later years, he joined the staff of the University of Houston Health Center. Ill health brought retirement in 1999. A man of great honesty and integrity, he was dedicated to his family and his patients. A curmudgeon with a tender heart, his caring and generous spirit will live on. He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Roberta Heider, and his children; Charles, Jr. and Ming-Mei Heider of Olympia, Washington, Rebecca and Peter Burris of Boulder, Colorado, and Clinton and Carol Heider of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Emily Heider of West Hollywood, California and Kyle Burris of Austin, Texas; and sister Mary Wenzel of Corpus Christi, Texas. The family wishes to thank his doctors, nurses and caregivers for their help, especially those at the Clear Lake Kidney Center.
