Charles Michael "Mickey" Matkin
1937-2021
Charles Michael "Mickey" Matkin passed away peacefully at his home in Spring on August 28, 2021, at the age of 84. He was born in Cherokee, Oklahoma on June 28,1937 to John Thomas Matkin, Sr. and Reba Gould Matkin. His family moved to Houston where he attended Roberts Elementary, Lanier & Pershing Junior Highs and graduated from Lamar High School in 1955. He attended the University of the South "Sewanee", from 1955 to 1957, where he pledged Kappa Sigma Fraternity, then the University of Texas, 1957, where he graduated in 1959. He received his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law in 1961 and was admitted to the Texas Bar the same year. He also served in the Texas Air National Guard and U.S. Air Force Reserve from 1961 through 1969. Mickey practiced law both as a partner and in private practice in Houston and, after moving to Spring, in the Champions area. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Martha Ann, and children, Greg Parker, Suzanne Parker Anderson, Kelly Matkin Cox and husband, Gary, Molly Matkin Hudson, Amy Matkin, and Kathleen Matkin Eskola and husband Edward, grandchildren, Amber Anderson, Laura Parker, Sam Parker, Bailey Hudson, Kasey Hudson, Katy Cox, Audrey Cox, Tulah Waters, Abigail Eskola, Ella Eskola; nephews, John Thomas Matkin III and wife, Monica, and Michael William Matkin and wife, Ninfa; and cousins, Beverly Baker Folz and Jim Baker.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, John Thomas Matkin, Jr. Mickey loved the Lord, his family and friends and led his children in the Christian faith. We will always remember his loving spirit, wit, generosity, zest for life, and those smiling Irish eyes. A memorial service will be held at two o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at St. Timothy's Anglican Church, 6819 Louetta Rd., Spring, Texas 77379. For those unable to attend in person, the service may be observed live at the St. Timothy's Anglican Church YouTube page. Immediately following the service, all are invited to a reception in the St. Timothy's parish hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your charity of choice.
