Although I did not know Charlie well, about three years ago I sent him a small token of my appreciation for his time and service as president of the 100 Club of Houston. Several days later he phoned me and thanked me for the gift and also for my service. We had a brief conversation whereupon I informed him how much I admired his athletic skills and he then said ," I wasn't HALF BAD ! " God bless you Charlie and my prayers are with Jill and your family.

As a younger schoolboy cousin, I idolized Charlie largely because of his football successes. I even made a scrapbook that I´m sure is in a box somewhere. I remember my family attending a game between TAMU and Texas Tech where Charlie was briefly knocked unconscious. The level of laughter and conversation at family reunions always went up a notch or two when Charlie and James Lyle were on the scene. Charlie was a family man and generous man to all who knew him. Peace, comfort and blessings to all the family. Heaven has gained a good one. Love, Cousin Mike

His memory will always be a blessing to me. I remember he and James coming to our cabin on Lake Brownwood in the 50s. My Dad would pull them skying with his Chris Craft boat while I was a passenger. So impressive! Charles also always sent me A and M book covers when I was in San Angelo Central! I was so proud to have them. My love to all your family and my heartfelt condolences. Cousin Karen
