Christopher Allred Obituary

CHRISTOPHER FAULKNER ALLRED, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Houston, Texas, on Thursday, the 30th of July 2009. He was 94. Chris was born in Thatcher, Arizona in 1914 to Christopher Anderson Allred and Silva Mae Faulkner. He was the last survivor of six children. He graduated from Arizona State University. He married his wife, Rita, on the 16th of September 1943 and remained by her side for sixty five wonderful years. Following graduation, Sergeant Allred heroically fought in WWII in Germany, Austria and France and received the Bronze Star. After returning to his wife and year old daughter, they moved to Peoria Arizona. Mr. Allred taught biology and coached basketball. Upon moving to Houston in 1952, he was associated with Humble Oil Company until retirement in 1972. Mr. Allred was an extremely devoted man to his wife, daughter and her family, always caring, supporting and going the extra mile to help his family. He and his wife loved to dance. He was also an avid gardener until the day he passed away. Mr. Allred was preceded in death eight months ago by his beloved bride, Rita Bolian Allred. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Allred Thomas, grandchildren; Christopher Bowman Thomas, his wife, Rebecca, Alicia Thomas Garrison and husband, Monroe, great-grandchildren; Thomas and Charles Garrison, Caroline and Christopher Thomas, Jr. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to his loving care givers, Agnes Hernandez, Theresa Coulter-Miller, Chris LaGrone, Dr. James Skelton and the wonderful staff at Gulf Coast Hospice, his loyal friends; Ernestine Lewis and Ethel and Johnny Milton. The family gathered for a private graveside service on Tuesday, the 4th of August at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, led by Deacon Woods Martin. The service included scripture readings by his friends, Rev. Johnny Milton and Patsy Martin, and featured hymns performed by the beautiful voice of Eva Walters. The United States Army Honor Guard presented his daughter Patricia with the folded flag as TAPPS was played. A celebration of his life followed the service at his daughter's home with many friends and family. Mr. Allred's love for life inspired all who knew him. He will be greatly missed. For those desiring, the family requests with gratitude that contributions in his memory be directed to Texas Paralyzed Vets of America, 2807 Old Spanish Trail, Suite A, Houston, TX, 77054, the Salvation Army, 1603 McGowen St., Houston, TX, 77004-1146, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
