Clifford Lane Whitehill, 87, passed away after a brave fight with Parkinson's on August 15, 2018, at his home in Vero Beach, FL, with family.
Cliff was born April 14, 1931, in Houston, TX. He went on to college there at Rice University receiving a Bachelor's degree in Accounting. He then attended the University of Texas where he became editor of the Texas Law Review and received his J.D. degree in Law. Next, at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA, Cliff received a Master of Laws degree, with special focus in International Corporate Law.
Mr. Whitehill's career started as an associate at Childress, Port and Crady, in Houston, TX, followed by auditor at Haskins and Sells, and then assistant general counsel at Texas Butadiene and Chemical Company in New York. Moving to Minneapolis, MN, he began a long career at General Mills as general counsel, then senior vice president, general counsel and secretary. He went on to become senior vice president, general counsel, secretary at Darden Restaurants, and finally executive vice president and general counsel at Burger King Corporation.
He had an immense love for the outdoors and loved to fly, having a small plane for great adventures, enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing, tennis, and hiking. He even had a chance to help turn a movie script into a movie "Blood Simple," with the now famous Coen brothers. Cliff also was legal counsel at General Mills at the time of the board game trial of the century, "Monopoly vs. Anti-Monopoly."
Survivors include his wife Daisy Mae Whitehill; 3 children, Clifford Scott Whitehill, Alicia Anne House, and Stephen Lane Whitehill; 4 grandchildren, Nicholas Whitehill, Cory House, Michael Whitehill, and Kareina House. He is preceded in death by his parents Catalina and Clifford Whitehill, sister Linda Whitehill, and brother Walter Whitehill.
