Cynthia Colt Obituary

Cynthia de Bottari Colt
1926-2016
Cynthia de Bottari Colt died on Wednesday, April 20th, at home. Mrs. Colt lived a wonderful life filled with energy, and her family will do its very best to live with the same strength, grace, and endless thirst for life as she did.
Mrs. Colt was born on February 3, 1926, to Alexander de Bottari and Laura McMannis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Colt; and her sisters, Olga Osborne, and Alexandra Hudson.
Surviving Mrs. Colt are her four children and ten grandchildren: Samuel Sloan Colt II, his wife Sandy Rowley Colt, children Jonathan Zachary Altneu, his wife Heather Tweedie Altneu, daughters Nella Rose Altneu and Willoughby Isabel Altneu, Katherine Elizabeth Altneu, William Sloan Colt and Walker Rowley Colt; Cynthia Colt Franklin, daughters, Laura Gallatin Franklin and Catherine Colt Franklin; Richard Tone Colt, his wife Kathleen Berryman Colt, children Samuel Sloan Colt III and Caroline Mary Colt; and Laurie Colt van Wagenberg, children Henry Sloan van Wagenberg and Alexandra Jacoba van Wagenberg.
Mrs. Colt is survived by two nephews and a niece: Christopher Marston Ames, his wife Carol Blanton Ames, daughter Alexandra Ames Kornman, her husband Alexander Kornman; Alexander de Bottari Ames, and his wife Hilary Ames; and Countess Cynthia Victoria Bernstorff-Gyldensteen, her husband Frants, sons Eric and Peter, his wife Sara Rankløve Bersntorff, daughter Clara Constance.
Cynthia and her husband moved to Houston from New York in 1951. She was a representative of the American Museum of Britain and a special representative of Tiffany & Co, later serving on the Tiffany & Co. Advisory Board. She was on the Board of the Northwood Institute, a member of the Houston Chamber of Commerce Cultural Affairs Committee, a founding partner of Heldman-Colt Associates, a representative of Chaumet Jewelers of Paris, France, and a volunteer for Communities in Schools.
Mr. and Mrs. Colt belonged to The Bayou Club, as well as Houston's Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Natural Science, and Children's Museum. Mrs. Colt loved sports since childhood, especially horseback riding, fox hunting, golf, tennis and swimming. Mrs. Colt, Cynthia, Mom, and Grandmommy, will be profoundly missed. Her memory lives on, particularly in moments of deep laughter, good storytelling, and profound curiosity.
The family would like to thank Houston Hospice, and her caregivers: Evadell Ware, Joann Norman, and Lucy Guillory, who helped her so much at the end of her life.
A Memorial Service will take place in the fall at St. Martin's Episcopal Church.
