David Draper Obituary

David Randolph Draper
1945-2018
David Randolph Draper, 73, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 21, 2018 surrounded by his family. Born on May 11, 1945 in Belleville, Illinois, he was lovingly raised by his Mom and "Pop", Irwin and Willie Jane Kaesberg. He is preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Ralph and Jeff Draper.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 47 years, Karen, the light of his life; his beloved son and daughter-in-law Richard and Carole; adored grandsons, Dylan and Luke and four brothers Dennis, Gary, Mike and Eric Draper. In addition, David leaves behind a host of cherished "in-laws", nieces, nephews; and many, many good friends from all over the world. David and Karen loved to travel for work and fun. He had a great love for Scotland, the people of Angola and his family and friends. David was considered by all to be a man of high integrity who "never met a stranger" and will be fondly remembered as a wise teacher of unmatched intellect. Faithful and compassionate, David will be missed by all who were blessed to have known him in this life.
A visitation with family is planned for Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from 10 - 11 AM. The funeral will follow promptly at 11 AM at the Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel, with Deacon Dan O'Dowd of St. Jerome Catholic Church officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Camp Hope - the PTSD Foundation of America, ptsdusa.org. David proudly served in the United States Air Force and it would please him greatly to support those who served our country.

David was the kind of guy who would come to visit you and if he saw you were working on a project he would roll up his selves and help you finish it. Once he went on a engineering assignment in the African desert and had to wait for three days for some equipment, so rather than sit around doing nothing he rewired a whole camp for some of the locals. A selfless man who embraced service to others. His devotion to Karen and his family seemed to just flow effortlessly from his deeply spiritual being. I will miss our deep talks and his funny whit.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief. It seems so unfair that death would have the power to take away someone you love. And when it happens, the thought of never being able to talk to, laugh with, or hold your loved one can be most difficult to bear. The pain is not necessarily erased by being told that your loved one is up in heaven, as if God doesn't care about our pain. Only God's Kingdom can bring peace, happiness, perfect health, and everlasting life -Matthew 6:9, 10

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved ones today and always. Your cousin, George , and Marit. Also from your Aunt June. We wish we could be there to support you. I have fond memories of the too few times I spent with you and David. And thank Billy for the notice.

Gary & Joyce:
Saddened to discover the news of Davids passing. I remember sitting with him on the bus as we rode to AHS. Graduated with him in 63. God bless the family.
