David Hammon Obituary
David Samuel Hammon was proud of being a Union Stage Hand and a Union Film Stand-by Painter. David, a 30 year member of The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage and Moving Pictures Technicians Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States and Canada. He belonged to Local #127 (Dallas, Texas), president and business agent of Local #587 and solely started Local #484 for the state of Texas for the film industry. He joined the union when he was 20 by the time he was 30, he was asked exclusively to be "the" stand-by painter for Oliver Stone to include 9 featured films. Also, the age of 30 he had worked on 10 Academy Award Winning Films. David worked on such movies as; Robo Cop, Silkwood, Places in The Heart, Southern Comfort, Tender Mercies, Terms of Endearment and Born on the Fourth of July. Davids' first concert was Bad Company in Shreveport, LA where he was the president and business agent for the Local #587. He transferred to Local #127, in Dallas, TX. His first concert in Dallas was Tattoo You with the Rolling Stones, ZZ Top and Stevie Ray Vaughn with Double Trouble. At which time Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones said "Dave, you are going on the road with us. I love the way you handle my 12 guitars." David was also a song writer and had 13 songs published. A few will be played during the service. His father-in-law, Jimmy Duncan whom is a long time singer and song writer will be singing a song he wrote for Dave called "If this is my Last Song". Dave went to be with our Lord on December 31, 2007. God wanted David to be his own personal stand-by and set painter in the sky to ring in the New Year. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sherry Hammon, sisters Maria Anderson & husband, William K. and Ruthie Schneeberger & husband, Lonnie, brother, Howard Hammon & wife, Jeri, parent-in-laws, Jimmy Duncan, Jr. and Lillian Duncan, sister-in-law, Susan Tapia, nieces, Kimberly Delgado, Krishna Hammon and Samantha Hammon, nephews, David Fry, Timothy Fry, Chad Schneeberger and Stephen Schneeberger, numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and a host of friends. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with a Funeral Service to follow at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 5, 2007 and will be officiated by Rev. Joe Crabb whom also baptized him this past Christmas Day.
