David Litowsky Obituary

David Litowsky M.D.
1931-2015
Just four days after celebrating his 84th birthday, Dr. David (Dave) Litowsky passed away after a long illness. He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 59 years, May Rose Litowsky, his parents, Harry and Jean Litowsky, and his son-in-law, Henry Miller.
Dave is survived by his beloved sister, Sarah Lopata and his five daughters and their families: Rochelle (Shelly) White (Larry), Linda Litowsky, Gayle Powers (Joe), Pauline Myerson (Alfie) and Helene Caudill (Rob). He is also survived by his nephews, Warren Lopata and Lawrence Lopata and nieces, Barbara Gerber and Sheryl Sookman. Dave was very proud of his grandchildren and their spouses: Abe White (Shellie), Sam White (Emily), Cody Powers, Brian Caudill, Emily Caudill, Rachel Jamail (Zachary), Anna Meyerson and Caroline Meyerson. He felt very blessed to spoil his great grandchildren: Joshua White, Gillian White and Violette White.
Dave was born in Detroit, Michigan and graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1955. He proudly served in the Panama Canal Zone for the U.S. Army before settling in Houston in 1958.
For over 50 years, he was a dedicated physician and served as Chief of Staff at Spring Branch Hospital. After retirement, he shared his passion for medicine by teaching at the UTHealth School of Nursing and remained active in the Harris County Medical Association.
Dave loved travel, arts, music and education. He generously contributed to many charitable organizations and endowed many scholarships throughout the years. One of his proudest achievements was sponsoring the Braeburn Elementary School where their Science Lab now bears his and May's names. Dave would say, "It makes me feel good in my soul to help people." And he did.
Dave was a member of Congregation Brith Shalom and later Congregation Emanu El. Ever the Renaissance man, Dave cherished those lifelong friends who loved and supported him to the very end. He also loved to share his vast expertise on just about any subject. His favorite time, however, was always spent with his "beautiful redhead and best friend."
The family would like to thank all of those exceptional people who cared for Dave in his final months. His life will be celebrated and honored at gravesite in the Emanu El Cemetery, 8341 Bissonnet Street on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at 2:30 pm.

Dr. Litowsky and his wife May generously endowed an academic scholarship that I received when attending the University of Michigan Medical School. I am very grateful for the support they provided me in pursuing my passion to become a physician.

Dave will be remembered as a wonderful physician and friend. He was a very close friend of my late husband, George, and I will always cherish the fond memories of Dave and his lovely wife, May. We shared with them a love of arts and education and they left us with wonderful memories. My deepest condolences to the family for their loss.
