Deana Roberts Obituary

Deana Cardini
Roberts passed away on December 2, 2012. She was born in Monticello, NY to Norma Battaglia Cardini and Angelo Cardini.
Deana was born an independent spirit and leader. She worked for Eastern Airlines from 1959-1977 and for KLM from 1977-1983. She was married to Coach Clarence L. Roberts, who passed away suddenly of cancer July 1st 2012. They were married 47years. She opened ACE Group Travel Planners and worked there from 1983-1986 when she joined Intropa Tours, out of Vienna. In 1992 Intropa Tours bought the Intropa Building in Bellaire. She became President of Intropa USA in 1994 and her company was bought by Hasbro Toys and Riddell Helmets that same year. Deana travelled the entire world with small and large groups of people, fearlessly leading them everywhere. Her largest tour was 2000 parade participants for the New Years day parade in London on the millennium. Her smallest tour was 12 to Mozambique, Libya and Gibralter.
In recent years she taught N.A.M.I., she was very involved in Garden Clubbing, past president Houston Orchid Society, Far Corners Garden Study Club, President of Houston Federation Of Garden Clubs, on the board of Directors NGC Inc as well as being a Certified Houston Tour Guide. She arranged and escorted many Garden Club Tours for NGC and Texas State Garden Club, as well as the Houston Federation of Garden Clubs. She was also an accredited Flower Show Judge and gave various groups presentations on flower show arranging and working with orchids. Deana and several of her neighbors took on the task of having the old Bonhomme Acre Home turned into a Nature Park with the help of Commissioner Steve Radack and this park is enjoyed daily by all the neighborhood.
She and her family would like to thank everyone for all of the encouraging letters and cards sent to her during her brief illness. She leaves behind her wonderful daughter, Rachel Ann Roberts and the highlight of her life, Troy Buck Keeney. Deana had a positive approach to life and an engaging personality and loved people, plants and pets, not necessarily in that order. Via con dios great lady.
Donations, in lieu of flowers, should be made to the Houston Federation of Garden Clubs specifically earmarked Houston Garden Center Building Fund of Houston Garden Center.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at The Houston Garden Center with refreshments afterwards at 12:00 pm.

Dear Wonderful Deana,
I just now learned of your passing and through my tears I type, recalling our brief but fun filled friendship through the Houston Orchid Society. Although I moved to Florida three years ago you were never far from my thoughts. You were truly an amazing lady with such a sense of humor and your "I can do it all" attitude was so inspiring. Having you and CL participate in our wedding with Father Ted at the chapel at St. Thomas was a privilege and made Gerry and me feel so special. We loved our dinner parties and just being in your presence was always such fun. I cannot believe you have left us. Please know how much I loved you and now my thoughts, recollections and prayers will have to suffice.
Love to you Dear Deana!

Deana, family and friends,

You come across people in your life that you meet, get to know, share some stories and a few meals and they are woven into your life. Deana is one of those people. Her spirit, her laugh, her determination are just a few of the things I remember most. I learned about the "evil eye", how to deal with customers in the travel world. I now prayer for Rachel and her sweet child and her other "children" she has left to finish what she has started. Deana I will not be in Houston Saturday but I will be doing something for those less fortunate so I know you will give me a pass ............this time! Love ya Deana and miss you.

Ah, Cardini! You just couldn't live without C. L. You were determined to join him. You were truly a delight to be with. Our trip to MEX to have an original Ceasar salad in Caesar Cardini's rentaurant. The trip to San Simeon to see your uncle's magnificent sculptures. Deanna, your friends and family will miss you but your infectous laugh will forever make me smile. Lady, you are missed already!

Dearest Deana, your life was a whirlwind of laughter, chuztpa, calculating, dreaming, bullying and loving. You brought so many different worlds together - this was one of your many unique gifts. You were open to the world and all the mashiga strays you collected in your flock. We all loved you, respected and admired you. Thank you for giving so much of yourself and I trust this next journey is every bit as meaningful and wonderous as the last. Much love to you dear Deana

Deana, you will forever be in my Heart. Thank you for giving this 20 yr old single mom a chance. You taught me so much and gave me opportunities only a girl could dream of. Thank you for the wonderful Laughs, Memories, and Italian Food. I will miss your Barbara Walters interviews. You were remarkable even til your last days, even though you were weak you still wanted to know how "I" was doing. So it's only right for me to ask you, "So tell me Deana Roberts, How is Heaven?"

I will always remember your laughter, your spirit, and most of all your compassion. With your help and light, you helped mold me from a naive recent college grad into a confident, passionate citizen of the world. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to know you, CL, Rachel and Troy and for all you have done to make an impact in my life and the world.
