Denise Atwell Obituary

DENISE ATWELL, 48, of Clear Lake City, TX passed away January 6, 2009, at Triumph Hospital in Webster, Texas. She was a wonderful wife, mom, step mom, grandmother, daughter, and a friend to everyone she met. For nearly four years she valiantly fought the post-effects of chemo and radiation that she had to endure for the cancer, that eventually took her life. In the end, her organs and immune system were so weak that she did not have the energy or strength to fight the fight anymore. Denise was born and raised in Texas City. Being the independent person she was she went into business for herself as a political consultant at Mainland Marketing and Research, and eventually formed XXcel Corp. where she performed IT consulting services. She and her husband Bill married in 1995, and formally adopted daughter Mallory Rose in 2003. She is survived by her husband Bill, mother Dot Wilbanks, daughters Mallory Rose and Michelle Roberts, son Joseph Roberts, stepsons Jamie Atwell (Rancho Santa Fe, CA) and Jason Atwell (League City, TX) and their wives and children, granddaughter Bonnie Jean Pillow, and grandchildren Monica, Kendra and Lil. Joe, stepbrother Maxie Wilbanks, Jr. and step sister, Marcia Andrews, lots of cousins and relatives too numerous to mention. Denise loved the outdoors and always shared her infectious laughter and gift of love for her family and friends. We will miss her beautiful smile, deep devotional love for her God and her family and friends, and radiant attitude that one day she would conquer her disease; her loving God has now relieved her of the mortal pain and suffering. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 10, at 2:30 p.m. in honor of her wonderful life at Crowder Funeral Home, 111 E. Medical Center Blvd., Webster, TX, (281) 280-9000. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Denise's name to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX.

I'm sorry for your loss. Denise was with me when my daughter was born (her granddaughter) she cut umbilical cord. That is my favorite memory of her.

Bill, Mallory and family, I am so sad to hear that Denise has passed on. I too will remember her upbeat attitude and compassionate personality. Whenever I would call her she would always say "hey girl..." She often spoke to me about her strong love for her family. She had many dreams for a bright future. She was a wonderful person and she will be greatly missed. Diane W
