Dixie McDonald Obituary

Dixie Ruth Jordan McDonald
1931-2018
Dixie Ruth Jordan McDonald passed away peacefully on January 12, 2018, at age 86, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Oakhurst, Texas on February 25, 1931, to Dick and Mattie Lee Simms Jordan. Dixie graduated from Sweeny High School in 1949 and married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Howard McDonald, on August 31, 1952. After living in Austin, Ennis and Corsicana, Texas, they settled in Katy in 1960.
Dixie had a lifelong passion for children, reading and the beautification of Katy. She worked at Katy Independent School District as a librarian and as a school secretary for Hutsell Elementary where she retired in 1991. In her retirement, she created THM Farms in Wolfe City, Texas where she raised BeefMaster cattle and nurtured her love of gardening. About 10 years later, she returned to Katy to care for her mother. She kept busy by serving on the board of Keep Katy Beautiful, where she took charge of their "Paint a Plug" program and left her mark all around the city. In 2014, Keep Texas Beautiful honored her with the OP Schnabel Senior Citizen Award. This award recognizes senior citizens who demonstrate positive, dynamic and selfless public-spirited leadership in enhancing their local community environment during their lifetime. Dixie loved nothing more than being surrounded by her family – her little ducklings as she called them. It brought her so much joy to have the majority of her family together this past Christmas, and these are the memories she took with her as she went to be with her Lord and Savior on her beloved husband's birthday.
Her children and their spouses survive her: Linda and Bill Marshall, Donna and Tony Rose, Randy and Kathy McDonald and Liz and Matthew Messner. She leaves behind her beloved grandchildren – Charla and Mason Brown, Lindsay Williams, Joseph and Adrienne MacKinnon, Matt and Amber Marshall, Steven and Chanette Marshall, Jordan and Hannah Hutchison and Blake Rose. Her great grandchildren who were the light of her life include Preston, Mason and Carson Brown, Hunter Williams, Tatum and Reese MacKinnon, Jaxon Marshall, Maddox Marshall, and JJ Hutchison. She is also survived by her extended family members that include her sister-in-law Chris Jordan, James and Chrissy Jordan and their children, Michael and Meredith Jordan and their child, and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother and sister-in-law Joe and Dolly Jordan and brother James Jordan.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at the Schmidt Funeral Home Grand Parkway Chapel, in Katy. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 15, 2018 at the Frist United Methodist Church, in Katy, with Dr. Richard L. White officiating. http://www.schmidtfuneralhome.net.
Memorial gifts can be made to Keep Katy Beautiful, c/o the City of Katy, 901 Avenue C, Katy, TX 77493.
