Coach Alexander was a great and loving coach he thought my sisters and myself (The Garibay Girls) as we were called at Fonville Middle School. He was always taking care of us and watching over us. He really enjoy, and cared deeply for his basketball team. He will be greatly missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

My memories of Mr. "A."

I met Don at Waltrip High School in the early 80's when he was a security monitor. We called him "Mr. A." On duty, he had a demeanor that demanded respect. My senior year '82' I worked for him and that is when I grew to know his big heart. He really loved kids - all kids. Of course, he showed some tough love when required! Nothing got past him.

We kept in touch, since my father was part of the HISD family, too. Don came to my wedding in 1986 and to a surprise baby shower my girlfriends gave me at work in 1991. I think he enjoyed being sneaky once in a while! Every so often Dad would hear from him and he would say "tell Lisa hello and I love her".
My son is at Waltrip now, and on the last day of school I was wondering how Mr. A. was doing. Just sweet, sweet memories. Mr. A will be missed.

Dear Alexander Family,

My husband and I opened our home to Bro. Don the weekend he was in Georgia. In the very short time we spent with him, we instantly grew attached to his kindness and warm personality. We are still in shock. My husband helped Bro. Don pack his things, and they even prayed together the morning he left our home. I am so sorry to know he is gone. Our hearts and prayers are with you. I hope good memories of him will comfort your hearts.

I met Coach Alexander for the first time my 7th grade year at Fonville Middle School (1989). I can truly say that although he was not a teacher per say, he was the best teacher around. He took me in as a student/player to remind me that although my dad died a few years before, he would help where ever he could. (Lunch money, a ride home, advise, and a chance to play ball)
He made such a big impact on so many lives.

We lost contact for about 15 years, (and when we saw each other at Target Hunger last year, we hugged each other as if it had been ages) but I am so glad that my husband got a chance to meet the coach that I always talked about, "my most favoritest coach". And that Coach Alexander got a chance to see that I am doing okay.

HE WAS A GREAT PERSON!!!!

May God be with you during this time.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
