This is a shock to me. This POWERFUL MAN of GOD baptized me at St. Luke Missionay Baptist Church. "Mother" Burgs as we all called you...Sis. Smallwood was called "Mother" Smallwood; I can remember Pastor Burgs marching threw the West End streets singing that song, "ON TO BIBLE SCHOOL"..and every child in the West End attended Bible School. Thank you Jesus for giving me a chance to be a student of God's Holy Word under Pastor Burgs leadership. My prayers are with this family; we raised up as family, Lydia, Loreli and Lois Belson. Another Soldier called "SERVANT". Just as my "MOTHER" answered "YEA LORD" so did Pastor Burgs. "HE TOOK THE MASTER'S HAND"...

MY PASTOR
Larger than life is how he appeared to me. I've heard folk call him "Byrd", but there was no "D", only a "G".

To his madea he was "little willie". By his booming voice we knew him sight unseen. To Sister Burgs he was simply Gene.

Reverend, Father, Pastor, Dad. These are some of the titles he had. Husband, cousin, uncle, brother. To all of us, a friend like no other,

Last Sunday as he lie listening, waiting to hear The Master's voice; he recalled how he'd always taught us that God gives us a choice.

To accept Him as our Lord and Savior, and to give Him our best. So when our battle here is won, we'll gain eternal rest.

Last Sunday as he lie listening, all titles ceased lest one; The Father whispered in his ear "COME HOME WITH ME MY SON".

In loving memory of a wonderful person, Pastor Donald Burgs, Sr.

I will always be grateful to Pastor Burgs. He was a true leader who cared about the spreading of the gospel through the perfecting of the saints.

As a young minister, the doors of his church was always open and he was always available. I was able to excercise my ministerial gifts.

To the family of Pastor Burgs, as the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, be mindful of John 14:1 (Let not your heart be troubled). May you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family, friends, and the comforting ministry of the Holy Spirit.

We will love you and miss you always.
