Donald Guidry Obituary

Donald Jean Guidry
1940-2022
Donald Jean Guidry, 81, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022.
He was born in Houston, Texas on July 25, 1940, to Mildred Marie Dupuis Guidry and Joseph Dudley Guidry. Don graduated from Marian High School. After graduation, Don entered the Navy, where he became a diver and traveled the world. Don served in the Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. He was very proud of his service to his country and often told stories of it. After returning from the Navy, Don attended San Jacinto College where he studied to become a draftsman. Don then worked his entire career as a draftsman for multiple oil and gas companies in the Houston area.
Throughout his life, Don lived in Houston, Pasadena, and Galveston, Texas. Don's first love was music. He could play multiple instruments, including the piano, guitar, and his beloved accordion. Being able to play by ear, Don could learn almost any song and play it with ease. He taught music over the years and often played in bars and honky-tonks in the Houston area. Don had a young spirit and was the life of the party. His hearty laugh and his big smile were contagious. He knew how to make people laugh and he greatly enjoyed doing so.
Don enjoyed the outdoors, often camping on the beach or in the woods. Convinced that he would find treasure, he loved walking the beach with his metal detector. After all, Don's motto was "one man's trash is another man's treasure!"
Donald Jean Guidry is preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Graves Guidry, and his parents, Mildred Marie Dupuis Guidry and Joseph Dudley Guidry.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Yvonne Guidry Gorski and her husband, Jeff Gorski; his three grandchildren, Amanda Kate Gorski Snyder, Emma Michelle Gorski Baldwin, and Luke Matthew Gorski; his great-grandchildren, Selby Colette and Celeste Ines Snyder; his sister, Barbara Anne Guidry Cavanaugh and her husband, Walter Cavanaugh; his nieces and nephews, Christopher Gaidousek, Denise Gaidousek Reagan, Karen Gaidousek Owen, Angela Gaidousek Drone, and David Gaidousek; and many great-nieces and nephews; multiple cousins and many other loving family members and friends.
Serving as pallbearers: Jeff Gorski, Luke Gorski, Kirk Gorski, Martin Snyder, Jacob Baldwin, David Gaidousek and Ben Drone. Honorary pallbearers; Christopher Gaidousek and Gary Reagan.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Monday, February 14, 2022, for the visitation at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home in Houston with a prayer service to begin at 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, with Father Thu Le officiating, followed by the graveside burial service at 1:00 pm, and the reception to follow immediately. All Tuesday services will occur at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home.

I know that "Uncle Donald" was dearly loved by Chris Gaidousek. When I met him on Tiki Island, it was like a picture of a hero had come to life. I had heard of so many great adventures they had together and there was much love in the telling of these stories. Barbara Cavanaugh will have an empty space in her heart but will find peace in knowing her brother is in Gods Hands now and at peace as well.
