Ed Finlay Obituary

Louis Edward Finlay
1929-2022
Ed was born in Daphne, Alabama, on September 21, 1929, and died in Houston on April 19, 2022. He was always proud of growing up in "Aggieland" where his father was a math professor at Texas A&M University. Ed graduated from TAMU with an architecture degree (class of '51) and subsequently served two years in the Korean War with the USAF. He married Jane Upshaw in 1955, and they raised three daughters (Donna, Julie, and Ellen). Ed joined the CRS architectural firm in 1957 where he specialized in master plans for campuses and communities in the U.S. and overseas. He later started his own consultant firm, Finlay Associates. Ed launched a second career as President/CEO of Oldham Little Church Foundation of Houston, serving from 1987-2011. He was an active member and deacon at Houston's First Baptist Church where he helped guide church building programs. He also led a building program at Houston Christian High School. Ed leaves behind his beloved wife of sixty-six years, his three daughters (Donna and Hoyt Savage, Julie and Noel Wassom, and Ellen Finlay and Scott Scherr), four grandchildren (Scott and Dani Savage, Keith and Linda Savage, Kyle and Kelli Wassom, and Adria Wassom), and five great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service is set for Tuesday, April 26, at 1:00pm at Houston's First Baptist Church. The service will be live streamed on the "HFBC Memorial Services" Facebook page. Memorial gifts can be made to The Association of Former Students of Texas A&M (aggienetwork.com/give/memorialgiving/) or mailed to Oldham Little Church Foundation (visit oldhamlcf.org).
