My grandmother to me wasn't just a teacher but, also guidance counselor in life. I just wish she was her to see that I'm doing well and to hear her say, "yea I told you that you can do whatever you put your mind to. This is the day the Lord has made so, let us rejoice and be glad in it. January 31, 2012 she gained her wings and it hurts so much that I asked God, WHY. I dread this day but only to weep tears of joy because I have faith that she walks with me and tells me not give up. God has a plan for you and accept what he asks of me.

When we are born of our parents and then have children of our own ,we are on assignment from the Lord.God has a checklist of things on all of that is ,what is expected of us.It reads: Did we raise our children right?
Were we friendly with all people?
Did we provide the best for our kids?
Did we take time to help those who are less fortunate?
Did we give God the Glory?
I know in my heart Mother Edna Hicks checklist was answered YES in all the above catagories.Ican hear God Saying"Well done my good and faithful servant".Come on home and be with Jesus! Rick(da voice)& Fannie Godfrey

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Dear Giselle, Terry and Jimmy,
Aunt Edna will always have a special place in my heart. I have good memories of our visits to Shreveport when I was little which included hanging out with your Mom, Dad, Giselle and Terry. I was a teenager just starting college when Aunt Edna opened up her home to me and my two roommates because our dorm rooms were not ready yet. Jimmy, you and Aunt Edna were the perfect hosts.
Aunt Edna was blessing to many of us in that way. She was always there to help. After she retired from the school district and I moved out southwest, we did not see each other as often. I was fortunate to have seen her about two years ago.
Please be encouraged to know that you have a very special mother, full of love and always willing to help others.
God will continue to bless you and your families as you remember your beautiful Mom. Our prayers are with you.
Your cousin, Gayle

My Dear Grandmother you were truly an EXCEPTIONAL woman. You loved your family and never waivered in anything you believed in. I can truly say that my Grandmother was hands down one of the strongest women i know and had a drive for success. I'm already missing our girly and harmless gossiping conversations over the phone. Im very much regreting that my adult relationship with my Grandmother was breif, but boy I sure enjoyed it and her altogether. "Ol Gal," u will truly be missed in my heart as well as my brothers and sisters. Love Your sixth Gran.

Mama Edna was a mother to me, she allowed me to eat, sleep, and shower, and shave in her home. She also impressed her belief in education in me, she was an example of a true humanitarian...I also commend Jim on his focus and drive to take care of mama, Jim stayed true to his commitment down to the very last day, I know he is experiencing a tremendous amount of stress, because he has lost his Teacher, his Best Friend, and his Mother...and as she makes her transition into the spirit realm, we must except change, and embrace Gods will, mama Edna has moved on, a walk we all must someday take, but she has left a Legacy for us to remember her by...through her children, grandchildren, family, friends , and colleagues, she will live forever.

Grandma, you will be truely missed!! I can remember all of the great times that we've shared, not very many bad but majority good. I know that here within the past year that there has been times that you may have wanted to choke me out for calling and waking you up while I'm out and about, and my phone would be in my purse and out of all the people that it could've dialed it would always seem to dial you and I know good and well you would be sleep but you would never say that you was sleep... But on the other hand when you would answer that phone screaming and I hear you through my purse oh buddy I knew that I was in trouble..... Im gonna miss you calling me when everybody else can't seem to answer, and you call me and say " I knew I would get you "!!! But whom ever you was looking for I would get them on line for you...... Mama Edna I'm gonna really miss you and always love you!!!!!!!
