She was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma and was very active in The Church of St. John the Divine, the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, PEO, the Houston Country Club, and numerous other civic organizations. She served as chairman of the Theta Antique Show, which is considered to be one of the finest in the country. She was also a director and officer of the Sinclair Foundation and a former member of the Harris County Medical and Houston Bar Associations. The children wish to thank her caregivers, Ernie Lee and Maria Asian, for the loving care they gave our mother in her final years. The family also desires to acknowledge the caring staff of the Houston Hospice for the wonderful medical treatment they provided. A private graveside service, for the family to attend, will be conducted this morning, Friday, the 23rd of December, at the cemetery of Forest Park Lawndale in Houston. The memorial service will be conducted at two o'clock this afternoon, Friday, the 23rd of December, in the sanctuary of The Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard in Houston, with the Rev. Dr. Laurens A. Hall and the Rev. Nancy DeForest officiating. Immediately following the service, all are invited to a reception in the adjacent Sumners Hall where the family will receive friends. In lieu of usual remembrances, memorials in Mrs. Flowers' name may be directed to the Houston Hospice and Palliative Care System, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX, 77030; or to the charity of one's choice.

Dear Lynn, Sherry, Lucy, AJ, Leigh, Elliot and the rest of your dear Family -

Oh my. Life has its ways of catching up with us. No matter how one tries to "think it through" this still hurts... much like the day at Camp Stewart when we got the news that Dr. Zarr had gone home or later the same concerning Mr. Flowers.

Your Mother, as you all know, was an important part of that group of loving and caring women who looked after all of us. Put another way, it didn't matter at whose house we were as children, for we were "home" and our Mother was there.

There are all kinds of words which are now failing me and ringing hollow as the Flemings reach out in this hour to the Zarr-Flowers family. I am certain of one thing. I know without doubt that your dear Mom is now in a place where there is no more darkness and there are no more tears. And, to imagine that she made this journey at Christmastime.

Please know that Durwood, Lurlyn, Pam and Ken, Marty and Steve join Cheryl and me with our salutations and honors to a great human being.

With Love and Respect,

Jon
