Emily Gillis

1924 - 2014

Emily Virginia Gillis , 90, of Seabrook, TX passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Tuscany Village Skilled Nursing Center in Pearland, TX. She was born on May 22, 1924 in Newark, NJ and grew up in Roselle Park, NJ and later moved to Middletown, NJ in 1955. Emily moved to Seabrook, TX in 2010 after the passing of her husband. In her younger years, Emily worked at The Newark News in Newark, NJ and then at RCA in Harrison, NJ where she first met her husband. Later, she worked part time as a playground aid at the Village Elementary School in Holmdel, NJ and at the Markham Place Elementary School in Little Silver, NJ. She also worked as a substitute teacher coordinator for the Colts Neck Township Public Schools. Emily enjoyed gardening and baking and spending her summers on the beach in Belmar, NJ. Emily is predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Bill Gillis, her parents Michael Ryczko and Amelia Gorska, and her younger sister Helen Coltman. She is survived by her two sons Jeff Gillis and his wife, Ellen of Seabrook, TX and Eric Gillis and his wife, Janice Davis of Houston, TX; her brother Al Ryczko of Brigantine, NJ, sister Florence Sergi of Elizabeth, NJ; and granddaughter, Katherine Gillis of Seabrook, TX. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Paul the Apostle RC Church in Nassau Bay, TX on Monday, July 7 at 10:30am. Interment will be private. Memorial donations can be made in Emily's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601
