Emma Bartholow Obituary

Emma Lee (Moorhead) Bartholow, 84, of Sugar Land, TX, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2008 after a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. She was born to David Arthur and Jessie (Chaney) Moorhead on May 9, 1923 in Arnett, OK. She graduated from high school in Arnett, OK in 1941 and attended Hills Business University. In April 1942, she started her career with the Veterans Administration traveling to Washington, D. C. She then returned to Oklahoma City, OK where she met and married Carl Bartholow, Jr. in 1948 and they relocated in Houston, TX. She retired from the Veterans Administration after 42 years of service. She was a proud and loyal member of Magnolia Chapter No. 706 Order of the Eastern Star for 60 years where she was Worthy Matron in 1975-1976 and has been Secretary for over 20 years. She was also a loyal member of AARP Chapter # 4075, Sugar Land Senior Line Dancing & Walking Groups and participated in several of the Houston Senior Olympics. Her parents, her husband of 32 years Carl Bartholow Jr., and three brothers, Dwight, Doyle, and Robert Moorhead precede Emma Lee in death. She is survived by her two loving children, Sharon Noble and husband Max, Ralph Bartholow and wife Deeana, 5 grandchildren, Shiloh, Lance, Jason and wife Eva, Jacob, and Ty, 2 great-grandchildren, Jerik, and Alana, one sister, Loie Jean Trantham and husband Irvin, two sisters-in-laws, Esther L. Moorhead, and Emma Lou Moorhead, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 19, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at Forest Park Lawndale. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Pasadena. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Lance, Jason, Jacob, and Ty. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made in her memory to Oak Lake Baptist Church Building Fund, 15555 West Airport Blvd., Sugar Land, TX 77478.

Our deepest sympathy and prayers are with the family. We lost our dear Iris Smith two years ago March. I remember Iris speaking of Mrs. Bartholow. They were neighbors, Iris lived at 1007 Gober, one son Michael, my husband.
