Ernest Grant Obituary

Ernest Harrison Grant (Harry), age 84, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2014 at Clarewood House in Houston, Texas. Harry was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on September 12, 1929 to Muriel and Alison Grant. He is survived by the love of his life of 62 years, Alice Green Grant. He is also survived by his children: Peter Grant and wife Michelle of Houston, TX and their sons Chris Spencer and Khodi Jacks; Beth Cooper and husband Chet, also of Houston; and Bruce Grant and wife Karen of Austin, TX. He had 5 grandchildren, Andrew Cooper and wife Sara of Houston, TX; Allison Cooper of Houston, TX; Jeffrey, Alexander and Matthew Grant of Austin, TX. He had 2 great-grandchildren Andy and Olivia Cooper. He is also survived by his devoted sister, Carolyn Dushku and husband John of Boston, MA; sister and brother-in-law Mary and Bill Warden of Philadelphia, PA. He is also survived by a niece, four nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
After growing up in New Bedford, Massachusetts, he moved with his family to New York City where he attended school at Wesleyan and Columbia. He married his childhood sweetheart on November 10, 1951 and later joined the service. He served in the Navy in Cuba. After leaving the service, Alice and Harry moved to Houston,Texas where they raised their family and made life-long friends.
Harry started his career as an estimator in the steel business. He later he went into real estate and became the co-owner of Grant/Post Properties. He was a devoted member of St. Francis Episcopal Church, where they were blessed with numerous friends. Most of all, Harry was deeply loved. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
A service to celebrate the life of Harry will be held on Friday, April 4, at 1:00 P.M. at St. Francis Episcopal Church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Clarewood House assisted living and extended care unit for the extraordinary care they gave him and also to the clergy at St. Francis Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to St. Francis Episcopal Church, 345 Piney Point Rd. Houston, Texas 77024 or Clarewood House, 7400 Clarewood Dr. Houston, Texas 77036.
