McCaine
Flora Jean Thomas McCaine loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away on January 23, 2011. Born June 7, 1925 in El Paso and raised in Houston. Preceded in death by her parents, Douglas V. & Flora Belle Thomas; husband, Jack; son, James; brother Douglas V. Thomas, Jr. Jean is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Damron and husband, Bob; son, John McCaine and wife, Julie; granddaughter, Allison Damron and Matt Jankowski; grandson, Zachary Damron; nephews, Richard Thomas and Doug Thomas and "other son", Steve McIlhenny. Jean made many lifelong friends from the grade schools, Rice Institute, O.W.L.S., Rice University Continuing Education, Rice University & U.T. Health Science Center Houston Institutional Animal Care & Use Committees. A special Thank You to the 5th Floor Main N staff at Methodist Hospital and Houston Hospice for the compassionate, comforting care they provided Jean in her final days. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 3816 Bellaire Blvd., Houston, TX 77025 at 3:00 PM on Saturday, January 28, with The Rev. Patrick Miller officiating. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rice University (Jean McCaine Scholarship on the check's memo line), P.O. Box 1892 MS-81, Houston, TX 77251-1892 ; Houston Hospice or charity of your choice.

Jean was a very special lady that I came to know through her volunteer services at Rice. She quickly endeared herself to me with her quick wit, quick tongue, and love for the University. I thank God for her life and share your sorrow in her loss.
