Frances Jeanne Le Baron Gaston Powell

Frances Powell Obituary

Frances Jeanne Le Baron Gaston Powell passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, September 25th. Her loving family surrounded her at the time of her passing. Jeanne was born June 15, 1930 in Kilbourne, Ohio to her mother, the late Elizabeth Huber Le Baron and her father, the late Olin W. Le Baron. Her family moved to Galveston in 1944 and Jeanne graduated from Ball High School in 1947. Jeanne received her bachelor's degree from Sam Houston State University and a master's degree in education from University of Houston. Jeanne worked for many years in the Galveston school system as an educational diagnostician. Jeanne and her beloved husband, the late Dr. Leslie Charles Powell Jr. of Galveston spent almost thirty years happily traveling the globe and volunteering their time in places such as Kenya, Malawi, Sudan, Vietnam and within the United States in Native American communities. Jeanne made many friends in all corners of the earth and many became part of the ever-expanding Powell "family". The family plans a celebration of Jeanne's life at Garten Verein in Kempner Park, 2704 Avenue O, Galveston, on Monday, October 1st. Services will begin at 6:30 pm. Friends and family will be invited to share their memories of Jeanne. A reception will immediately follow. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Turning Point Gulf Coast (PO Box 2118, Galveston, Texas 77553) or to a charity of your choice. J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home
