Frances Preston Obituary

FRANCES STEWART PRESTON passed peacefully away in her home in New Braunfels, Texas on March 12, 2008. She was 77 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Spyker Stewart and Frances Blackbourne Stewart and her son, Harrison Oren Preston II (Hoppie). She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, E. Harrison Preston; her daughter, Elizabeth (Sissy) Preston; her grandchildren, Emily McMillin and Harrison Roach; sister, Mary Stewart Snodgrass and her nieces, Fan Snodgrass Walker and Beth Snodgrass Amonette. Frances was born in Marlin, Texas on September 18, 1930. She moved to Houston with her family and graduated from Lamar High School. She attended the University of Texas in Austin and was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She as honored for her beauty as Bluebonnet Belle nominee. She graduated from the University of Houston where she met her husband, Harry in her communications class. They were married on July 11, 1952. In 1968 she moved with her husband and children to New Braunfels, Texas. She quickly became active in the community and made life long friends. She was a member of the Allegro Dance Club, the Gay Forties Social Club, the Republican Women's Association, the New Braunfels Service League and was a volunteer at McKenna Memorial Hospital. She loved playing bridge with her bridge club, traveling with her husband and daughter, cooking for everyone who adored her cooking and visiting her grandchildren children. She lived her life with grace, conviction and an unconditional love for her family and friends. She was the original Steel Magnolia. She was loved by many and will be missed by all. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Zoeller Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2008. Friends and family are invited to the family's home after the service for a further celebration of her life after the service. The burial will be in Port Arthur, Texas at the Greenlawn Cemetery on Monday, March 17, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. The family respectfully requests that memorial gifts be given in her name to the Tye Preston Memorial Library in Sattler, Texas. Dear Harry, Sissy, & family,
I just want to extend my prayers and condolences. I'll always remember Frances as a beautiful and sweet girl (in our school days) and lady the rest of her life.
May our Lord comfort you as only He can during this time.
