Janet: Tom and I were so saddened to hear about Garth. We so enjoyed running into you and Garth at the Texas-Michigan game and renewing our friendship when we had not seen each other in so many years. We think of you constantly and want you to know that you are in our prayers. Tom and Mary Lott (Las Vegas, NV)

Janet,
I have had the opportunity to attend many memorial services in my life, but I was completely taken aback at the outpouring of love and affection for Garth at his service. I so enjoyed knowing you, even though briefly, when I chaired the reservations committee at the Cattlebaron's ball of 2001. Being a friend of Susie's I was brought on board and had the pleasure of getting to know you and about Garth. I wish for you the peace of knowing that you loved and honored an incredible man during his life on this earth. You are a special person my friend, and you have many, many people who love you.

My heart simply sunk learning the news of the tragic accident that took the life of my friend Garth Bates. My deepest sympathies go out to Garth's loving wife Janet (who he adored), family as well as his many close friends and associates.

Somehow it seems this world will not be the same without him. I am a better person for knowing him. His smile, giggle and contagious laugh will be sorely missed. I admired how he could frame his words to somehow make a difficult business situation, seem better. I loved his humorous business and life analogies. In fact, I have many times repeated his words of wisdom. Having a business lunch with Garth was always a treat, as he would try to convince us to throw "gastrological" caution to the wind and dine at "Mucho Mexico".....

Rest in Peace Garth, I will miss you....

Words alone can't begin to express how heavy my heart is for all of you. The only words of comfort I can possibly offer are those to acknowledge what a wonderful legacy he left for all of his family and friends and to reaffirm that once your life has been touched by this wonderful soul, you are never the same. Kindness, Gentleness, Goodness, Thoughtfulness, Faithfulness towards all he encountered are tucked away in my memory of him forever. My prayer is that you allow your own memories to comfort you and that you are truly blessed for having known him.
