Hard to believe it's been nearly 14 years since we lost Gary. I think fondly of him very often!

Dear Easterly Family,

Let me express my deepest heartfelt sympathies to all. Gary and I were best friends in junior high and high school. We played handball, surfed at Surfside, traveled to Port Isabel, and generally "hung out" in the old neighborhood together. I haven't seen Gary in nearly 30 years but I will miss him dearly.

Dear Patrice and Family,

I was so sorry to hear of Gary's passing. My heart and prayers go out to you.

Gary was a kind and generous and thoughtful man. His dry wit and odd sense of humor made me laugh.

I am so glad to have known him, and all of you.

Words are difficult to express the essence of a spirit such as Gary. The testimony to the man is the width and depth of the people he knew and the many people he selflessly touched.

He will be missed but his legacy of family and friends is such that he will live on in the hearts, souls and minds of all of us who were fortunate enough to know him.

Dear Easterly Family,

I feel fortunate to have known and worked with Gary while I was at Carriage Services, and then again at Quantum Energy Partners. He always had a smile on his face. He always was available for a pleasant conversation. He always was a kind and thoughtful man. He was one of those people who touched lives in a positive way, without even being aware of his impact. He will be missed. I am so sorry for your loss. My heart is with you.

For the past eight years, Gary and Easterly & Co have worked with Adoptation to ensure that waiting children have adoptive families to call their own. Easterly & Co was an original community partner when Adoptation was created in 2000 and their commitment to the collaborative has never waivered. Gary and his team always worked closely with Adoptation to create designs and projects that led to 5,000 children becoming members of forever families! Gary's commitment to so many will live on within so many for generations to come and he will always be remembered as the great guy that he was!

Trice - you and your family are in my thoughts daily. I hold you in my heart and wish that I could fast forward time. I see your pain and wish so that I could take it away from you. I know that you are surrounded by many people that love you and will be there for you. But there are those moments, like 3:00 in the morning when you will feel the profound loneliness and loss of your Gary. I know that you would change nothing even if you knew how it would end. My love to your family, your parents, your children, and I send much caring to his nuclear family. I wish I knew them. Peggy

Easterly family,

I can't even begin to express how saddened my parents and I are after hearing about Mr. E.

He was like a second father to me for most of my childhood and we will all miss him so much.

Lizzy,
I don't know what to say other than that I am so deeply sorry. I wish I had known what was going on before today. Your family has always been so dear to mine and we love you all so much.

I will never forget the smile your dad put on my face and the kiss on my cheek every time I saw him. He was someone I greatly admired and someone I will deeply miss.

Mrs. E,

You and Mr. E always opened your home to me and made me feel like one of your own. I will never forget that.

We are praying for all of you.

We love you,

Rod, Mary Anne and Courtney Jay

Trice and family,

Words can't express the deep sadness I feel. You and Gary have been champions in my life and have always supported me and my singing. Gary was a true spirit and offered his talents and gifts freely. He loved his family with a strong passion and cared deeply for his fellow man. I can't remember a time when he wasn't in our lives. I will miss him and his addicting smile! God Bless you.

I graduated high school with Gary and have not seen him since. He was always the nicest of people as a kid and it does not surprise me that he grew up to be such a loving father and husband and friend. He had the kindest smile and was a gentle upbeat person. My heart goes out to you - his wife, children, parents, and other family and friends.

I will never forget Gary for as long as I live. I loved going camping with Gary in Big Bend National Park every Summer, and I went on the trip for eight years. My family and I loved driving across Texas to sit and watch the sunset with Gary every night in the first week of June. We will all miss Gary deeply and remember him each time we gaze at the sunset.

I am so very saddened by Gary's sudden death. My prayers go out to all of you and your family. Gary was such a powerful force and so vibrant that it doesn't seem possible that he is gone. I learned so much during my almost 9 years as part of the Easterly & Company family. I have many great memories to cherish and lifelong friends as well. He was such a charming and brilliant man. He will be greatly missed.

Matthew, Christine, George and Elizabeth.....Oh how he loved each of you. He wanted only the best for you and spoke with such pride about you. I never heard him say one negative word about any of you, only compliments or acknowledgement of your struggles and achievements. He had such faith in each of you knowing that each would find their path and find greatness at the end of that path. I am so sad for you for the loss of your Dad at such a young age. Life just doesn't seem fair at times. May your sorrow be filled with wonderful memories of the special times that you had with him.

Peggy Sheely

May 28, 2008

I wanted to send my heartfelt caring and love to his extended family. Pat and Eldo and their wonderful children and families were so important to Gary. He so cherished the time that he spent with all of you. I remember him talking so much about you as he did his own family. Christmas' and other holidays were so special to him as it was a time for family to get together. He loved you and it goes without saying that he loved the interchange with all of you. He particuarly enjoyed the interaction with you, Pat, feeling like he had met his match or you had met yours. I know your hearts are filled with great sadness as is mine. What a loss for all of us. He valued his owned nuclear family so much wanting intensely for them to be happy. As for friends and co workers, he had many and spoke often of all of you and cherished the time that he had with each of you. This loss is so difficult for me so it is incomprehensible what it is like for all of you.

Trice, I saw Gary a few weeks ago in his office. He made a special effort to come out to say hello. Gary had a way of always making friends feel special even in a business setting. We talked about fishing
breifly and he got me to laughing the way he always did. As I walked out the door I turned back,
he had that big smile on his face. I will remember him that way.

Gary Easterly was bigger than life. His life impacted us all. Although he is in a better place by now, my heart goes out to his family. He absolutely adored his wife, and totally honered his children seeing the uniqueness in all of them. Each of them brought him great joy in different ways. My heart goes out to his beloved wife, Trice. This loss in incomprehensible. What a loss to the world and what a loss to his family. He loves you so. His spirit will linger on and will be with us. For that I am sure. Watch the universe as he will show up in a variety of ways, as only Gary can do. Peggy

Gary was one of the first art directors I worked with in Houston when he was at Communications Group. Later I worked with Gary when he was art director of Texas Monthly. Most memorable was a cover shot we did featuring a live goat eating a newspaper. The headline said "Texas Newspapers... Baaaaad". I also shot several cover photos for Gary for In Houston and Houston City magazines. I will always remember the time he showed up for an Art Directors Club annual show dressed in what can only be described as a Tibetan monk's robe. Very original. But that was Gary.
