Genevieve Yokem Obituary

GENEVIEVE ANTRICH YOKEM, 62, lifelong resident of the Houston area was called home by our Heavenly Father on December 22, 2006. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Troy Yokem and their sons, Todd Yokem and wife, Beth, and Mark Yokem and wife, Wendy; grandchildren, Ty, Avery, Lauren, Ethan and Wyatt ; three sisters: Judy Phelps and husband, Keith, Vicky Gray and husband, Bill, and Carolyn Morse and husband Mike; niece, Lesley Vlietstra and husband Jan; great-nieces, Megan and Rachel; father and mother-in-law James (Jack) and Hortense Yokem; sisiter-in-law Nita Yokem; brother-in-law Claude Yokem and wife Kerrie; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Milert and Evelyn Antrich. Genevieve bravely battled cancer, drawing strength from her faith, her husband, the doctors and staff of MD Anderson, and her sister-in-law, Nita, who was a regular visitor. In life she provided countless hours of service to her community, volunteering for organizations such as Houston NW Hospital Auxiliary, Klein FFA Booster Club, Spring-Klein Baseball Board, and Cypress Woodlands Junior Forum, where she served on the cookbook committee and was honored as Volunteer of the Year in 1992. She was an accomplished baker and demonstrated her talents by designing birthday and special occasion cakes for the people she loved. She worked for Harris County Pct.4 Judges H. N. McElroy and J. Kent Adams and, after she became ill, retired with 12 years of service. At her retirement celebration, Judge Adams described her best, "No matter what the circumstances, she was always a lady." She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held 6-9 pm Tuesday with at vigil service at 7pm at the Klein Funeral Home-Champion Forest. A funeral service celebrating Genevieve's life will be held at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church 11am Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006. Rite of Committal will follow at Brookside Cemetery.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. You are a very memorable and special lady and you put up a valiant fight against your disease. You always had a smile and a positive attitude even when the news was not what you hoped to hear. I feel honored to have met you and your husband during your fight against cancer.

Genevieve, you are one special Lady, you will be sorely missed. All of your creative talents in mind, I guess God needed a new interior decorator. Don't forget to make Him some of your famous candy crunch, and if you can arrange it, maybe rain some down on us. Love you much!
