George Turner Obituary

GEORGE E. TURNER, 77 of Humble, Texas, born February 13, 1925, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of September 24, 2002. His loving family surrounded him. After graduating from Humble High School in 1942, he entered the navy to serve his country in World War II. Upon completion of military service, Mr. Turner entered Southwest Texas State University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in 1950 and a Master of Arts degree in 1951. He served as a public school educator for 37 years, 22 of which he served as superintendent of Humble I.S.D. He was instrumental in the founding of Northeast Hospital and North Harris County Community College and served as a founding board member for both. In the past, George served as president of Humble Intercontinental Rotary Club, was a recipient of the Humble Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award in 1969 and was named Texas Educator of the month by the Texas Association of Superintendents and Principals. Upon retirement, Mr. Turner was honored by H.I.S.D. by having the high school stadium renamed as George E. Turner Stadium. He faithfully served Humble Area's First Baptist Church as a Sunday school teacher and director while serving on many committees including the Building Committee for the current building. He is survived by his wife, Jane Buckow Turner, daughter, Nancy Wright, son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Margie Turner, daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Mike Estrada and Sharon and Darrell Harris; grandchildren, Christy Wright, Keri Hill and husband Brad, David Wright and wife Rita, Jeremy Harris, Laura Turner, Ashley Harris, Amanda Estrada, Matthew Turner, Alyssa Estrada and Abby Estrada; great-grandsons, Dylan Wright and Tanner Hill; sister-in-law, Netti Turner; brother-in-law, George Buckow and wife Barbara; sister-in-law, Barbara Schmid and husband Robert, and many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Ethel Turner, brothers, Dick Turner and Jake Turner, sisters, Frankie Adams, Helen Boucher, and Arlene Holloway. Pallbearers: grandsons, David Wright, Jeremy Harris, Matthew Turner, Brad Hill, nephews, Dirk Turner, John "Buster" Ramos, Dickie Turner, Jeff Wisenbaker, Greg Wisenbaker, Scott Schmid, John Paul Schmid and Christopher Schmid. Honorary pallbearers: retired and active administrators and spouses of Humble I.S.D. Visitation will be at Rosewood Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 25, 2002 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Services will be at Humble Area's First Baptist Church on South Houston Avenue on Thursday, September 26, 2002 at 4:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Rosewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Humble Area's First Baptist Church Building Fund or Humble Area's Retired Teachers Association Scholarship Fund.

Jeff and I are so sorry for your loss. George was such a kind and special man and I think I'll miss his laughter the most.
