Glen Keller Obituary

Dr. Glen E. Keller , 85, of Houston, lost his battle to liver cancer on May 26, 2012, in his home.
Dr. Keller was born May 7, 1927, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Jack and Ruth Keller. Due to the tragic death of his parents, he was in an orphanage and then raised by his grandparents. He was the youngest of five children who were scattered to live with other relatives. Born to meager means, he was always self-sufficient and determined.
He joined the armed services at 17 and served his country valiantly in World War II as part of the United States Navy Construction Battalion (Seabees) in the Pacific Arena and celebrated his 18th birthday on Okinawa. Following the war, he also served in the Air Force.
After the Air Force, he earned his GED and continued his formal education to its culmination as Doctor of Medicine from the University of Arkansas. He spent 55 years in the medical profession, including building a hospital in Arkansas, building two Houston-area hospitals and participating in humanitarian medical trips to Costa Rica. He was very proud that his two sons followed in his footsteps in the medical field and continue his legacy through his grandchildren.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed trout fishing and deer, elk and moose hunting. Even moreso, he truly enjoyed the practice of medicine, helping others to heal, and teaching those around him. His favorite title was Dr. Grandad.
He is survived by the love of his life for more than 42 years, Sally J. Keller; his children and their spouses, Michael and Ruth Keller, Kathryn Keller, Kim and Gwen Keller, and Sally and Ron Herbert; grandchildren (and spouse) Kerby, Alex (Chrisy), Michael, Allison, and Sarah Keller and Megan and Emily Herbert; and other family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the American Cancer Society.
Services will be at Klein Funeral Home at 16131 Champion Forest Drive at 2:00 pm Saturday, June 2.

I was delivered by Dr. Keller at the clinic in Mountain View, Arkansas, before there was a hospital. I read Dr. Keller's obituary in the Stone County Leader and was impressed to learn more about the good he did over a long career, and to have overcome great challenges in his childhood. Inspirational! My condolences to the family.
