Grady was undoubtedly the best most trusted friend that my husband had in Grady’s later years. What a treasure as a human being I’m so very thankful that Rex and Grady became close initially through a shared love of quality music. Rex passed away unexpectedly thirteen months after Grady but felt such a great loss every moment missing him, his friendship, his musicianship, as well as simply sharing moments laughing and talking with this special man. As a Physician Dr. Hallman was so very well respected in the medical community and of course admired for his expertise.
Although Rex was not a patient he did give Rex treasured advice along the path of their shared time together. I thank God for Grady and his association with Rex. Blessings to his family and friends Lucy Sagle.

I am so sorry that I am just now learning about the passing of Dr. Hallman. I was a 21 year old girl in 1967 when I was shot in the groin with a deer rifle while deer hunting. I was very, very, close to death when Dr. Hallman became one of my doctors. I ultimately lost my left leg, but do to gangrene I almost lost my life. I had a lot of vascular issues. I was in St. Luke's Hospital for 6 months. I remember Dr. Hallman's dedication to seeing that I survived. I remember on one of many occasions he came into my room at 2:00am after flying back from Dallas from a speaking engagement to check on me, and he found me laying in a pool of blood because one of my arteries had been eaten into. He held that artery until they could get a clamp and get me to surgery. This was just one of many occasions where he saved my life. I have always been so grateful to him. But there is not enough room here to tell you all of the stories and dedication of Dr. Hallman that saved my life. I am now 74 and still living a full life. RIP Dr. Hallman, I will never forget you.

I meet Dr. Hallman In the Texas Medical Center Orchestra. He was a great encouragement to me in many ways. He told me about a brass institute in Denver, and I went. There I saw an Air Force brass quintet and knew I had found my calling. He is a major part of the reason I am enjoying a career as a military musician. I will never forget his passion for music and for helping those around him, even out of the OR.

I just read of Dr. Hallman's passing. He saved my daughter's life in 1983 and again 1989 when he did her Fontan surgery. She is 34 years old now. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I will be forever indebted to Dr. Hallman for providing the funding for the Golden Age of Brass, Vol. 3 recording that I made back when I was the Principal Euphonium of "The President's Own" United States Marine Band. As many people know, Dr. Hallman was a big fan of the euphonium (and a tremendous euphonium soloist in his own right!), and he felt strongly that our traditional "Golden Age" repertoire was underrepresented among brass recordings. His generosity in sponsoring all the production costs for this recording is a wonder that I marvel at as much today as I did back when I made the recording. I am still regularly approached by euphonium players who tell me that this recording is one of their favorites, and it would never have happened without the vision and munificence of Dr. Hallman. I sincerely hope that he rests in peace, and extend my condolences to his family and friends.
With deepest sympathy,
Michael Colburn

Sending my deepest sympathies to the family. Dr. Hallman was a mainstay of the Texas Medical Center Orchestra and went out of his way to welcome me when I first joined. He was the soloist in one of the first concerts that I played, with a beautiful rendition of Puccini's "O mio babbino" - on the euphonium!

Grady was my dear friend for over thirty years. He was an example of how a human being should live, work, and play.
Over our many years of friendship we attended numerous events throughout our nation with never a hint of any behavior that would reflect negatively on himself, his family, the medical field and of course, the musical community.
He was a true professional in medicine and all disciplines of music and especially loved the music of the concert band.
In Heaven now, Grady will join the wonderful brass ensemble the Lord is assembling. I shall miss him immensely.

I've known Grady since 1983 through my involvement with Gulf Coast Concert Band. A great musician and strong supporter of the arts. He was also very approachable about any topic, be it music, medicine or other. A kind, kind man that will be greatly missed, but leaves a great example for us all. Doug, Shelley & Michael

Grady was an important part of Summit Brass for 37 years, serving as a founder and member of the Executive Board until his death. He was a close friend to all of the members, and a key person in supporting our annual brass institute. He also produced several recordings of brass music for Summit Records. We will miss his wise advice and love of music.
