Harry Brochstein Obituary

HARRY H. BROCHSTEIN, native Houstonian, peacefully passed away at his home on March 12, 2002, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on February 22, 1920, Harry had practiced law in Harris County, Texas for the past 50 years. For the past 45 years he had friends and ranching interests in Bastrop, Lee, and Fayette Counties in Texas, enjoying his horses, cattle, barbecue, and fishing on his lake. He was a Fellow in the Houston Bar Foundation, and member of the American Texas and Houston Bar Associations. During World War II, Harry was a part of the Cadre in the formation of the 133rd Field Artillery, later serving as a Captain in the 812th Bomb Squadron. He is survived by his sweetheart and loving companion, Dorothy F. Furman, and his former wife of 45 years, Ellen R. Brochstein, their children and children's spouses, Stephen and Helaine Brochstein, Louise and Bob Irwin, Melanie and Stan Mays, and Mark Brochstein; grandchildren Ashley Brochstein, Tyler Brochstein, Laura Abrasley, Jennifer Abrasley, Lindsay Mays, Brett Mays, and Michael Brochstein; brothers Paul Z. Brochstein and I.H. "Herbo" Brochstein; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Harry's loving caregivers, starting with Pearl Davis, who provided 52 years of loving and dedicated service to the Brochstein family, and most recently Mildred Nelson, Beverly Barnes, and Emma Bonner. The family also thanks Dr. John Lerma for his most compassionate care, as well as Dr. Neil Strickman and Dr. John Paulsel. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 15, 2002 in the Kagan-Rudy Chapel of Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet, at 12:15 p.m., with Rabbi Walter and Cantor Tunitsky officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.
