Harry Doenges Obituary

HARRY L. DOENGES, JR. Harry L. Doenges, Jr., 86, of Austin passed away June 14, 2004. He formerly resided in Houston, Texas from 1955 to 1999. Harry spent his career as an accountant, retiring from Baker Hughes in Houston in 1982. He was previously employed at Pan American Petroleum in Houston. Harry served in the United States Army in the Philippines during WWII. During his service he met his wife of 58 years, Viola. He graduated from Bucknell University in 1941 and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Harry played baseball and other sports in college and is listed in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY as a player on the Bucknell team in the inaugural game. He is survived by his wife, Viola Kolos Doenges of Austin; sons, Joseph Doenges and wife, Martha of Brussells, Belgium, formerly of Boerne, TX, Michael Doenges and wife, Carol of Kennewick, WA, David Doenges and wife, Soumaya of San Antonio, and Vincent Doenges of Austin; daughter, Susie Doenges and husband, Randy Russell of Austin; brother, William Doenges of Los Angeles, CA; sister, Betty Heather of Hammonton, NJ; grandchildren, Josef Doenges and wife Melissa, Karl Doenges and wife, Christi, Elizabeth Doenges, Mary Doenges, Curtis Doenges, David Russell and Harry Doenges; and great grandchildren, Gregor, Marielle and Maximilian Doenges. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 16, 2004 in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 17, 2004 in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home. A private family burial will take place at a later date. The family expresses their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. John F. Sandbach and staff at the Texas Oncology Cancer Center and to the staff of Hospice Austin and Christopher House. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Doenges' honor to Hospice Austin or to a charity of the giver's choice.
