Helen Laugier Obituary

HELEN CAPANIDOU LAUGIER, loving wife and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and aunt passed away on December 30, 2002. She was born to Theofilos Capanidou and Maria Capanidou on April 18, 1935 in Athens, Greece. Helen came to Texas in 1955 to further her college education and obtained her degree in Sociology from Our Lady of the Lake College, San Antonio, Texas in 1956. She married her loving husband Gus in Houston, Texas in 1958. She received her graduate degree in Master of Social Work in 1959 also from Our Lady of the Lake College. Helen then worked at M.D. Anderson bringing comfort and relief to many people, both patients and families alike. Her life with her husband and daughters took her around the world many times over. Her loss will be deeply felt by all those whose lives she touched, as her greatest joy and gift to us all was to bring comfort and happiness to those she loved. She will always be remembered by all those who knew her: husband Augustin R. Laugier (Gus); daughters Yvette M. Laugier and Carole Laugier Naim; son-in-law Nadir Naim; grandson Alexander Sekander Naim; sister Lina Capanidou Hatziris, her husband Zaharias Hatziris; sister-in-law Teresa Laugier Gonzalez, her husband G. E. Gonzalez, eight nieces and nephews, their families; and friends all over the world. The family will receive visitors at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6800 Buffalo Speedway (Corner with Holcombe Boulevard) at 10:00 A.M. prior to the Funeral Mass at 10:30 A.M. on Friday 3 January 2003. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Houston, Texas under the direction of Jeter Memorial Funeral Home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
