Henry Tate Obituary

Henry Harold Tate, Sr. (Papa Tate), born February 25, 1925, in Jacksboro, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 1, 2012 at his home in Houston, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Pauline, his son, Douglas, his parents, Henry and Jennie Middlebrooks Tate, and his sister, Irene Mask.
He is survived by his children, Hank Tate (Jeannie), Pamela Daams (Nico), Paula Pedrick (Larry), John Tate, and Charis Cranford, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Harold's life was a testimony to the Lord's Kingdom with 35 years of broadcasting, over 60 years of Sunday school teaching, and 25 years of teaching high school. Harold loved to teach and serve the Lord by telling others about the Good News of Christ. The majority of his life was spent working with SONlight, the radio ministry he began in 1977. Sonlight radio messages sought to invade the time and space of the world with the saving message of Christ or with strong biblical teaching. Harold taught on radio for 35 years and his Sonlight interviews allowed many Christians to share their Christian pilgrimage with others. His experience in the field of Christian Education included teaching the Word of God in small groups and Sunday School classes. He taught various books of the Bible, as well as topical lessons.
The Memorial Service (Change of Address Party) will be Saturday, August 18, at 2:00 pm at Bridgepoint Bible Church, 13277 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079. (www.bridgepointbible.org). In loving memory of a great Christian man. Mr. Tate was the finest and most patient math teacher at Lamar High School. He was able to explain Algebra so that us students could grasp it and remember it even today. Eureka!, Mr. Tate.

To the Tate Family, I have never met sweeter people in my life. Both Harold and Pauline were such Godly people and it was always such a blessing to be around them. May they rest in peace and may God comfort all those who miss and love them.

All of us who had Mr. Tate for algebra and trig at Lamar High School will remember him as one of our best teachers ever. He was unfailingly cheerful and explained higher math in very clear terms. He was patient and kind to all students. I don't think he ever had any discipline problems in his classroom because we respected him so much. We all knew he was a Christian, and he "walked the walk". When our own sons were struggling with high school math, a Lamar friend (another of his former students) and I were lamenting, "Where is Mr. Tate when we need him?" The skills I learned from him served me well in college and I will always remember him with great fondness.
