Horace McQueen Obituary

9/23/1939 ~ 9/9/2009 HORACE MCQUEEN JR. is playing dominos in Heaven! He lived life large and vibrantly and now has a new audience for his many stories and tall tales. "Mac" was a beloved husband, brother, father, uncle, grandfather and friend. His favorite memories involved coaching his children's sports teams, golfing with friends and relatives, inner-tubing on the Guadalupe River, playing dominos with friends, and telling you, "This is what you need to do" Nothing made him happier than cooking meals for friends and extended family using the brick BBQ pit/smoker that he designed and built himself. In 2001, the cookbook he co-authored with his wife and sister, Southern Heirloom Cooking, was published. He will be dearly missed and will be remembered as a man who would give you his last dollar and welcomed every "stray" human and animal into his home. He was a gift from God. He is survived by his wife Carleen; son Gregory; daughters: Denise Dagnall and Melissa Yaffie; grandchildren: Austin, Zachary, Jackson, Danielle and Megan; sisters: Norma Jean Haydel, Mabel Dobry and Virginia Holm; brother Buddy McQueen; many nieces and nephews; and his dog Willie. A celebration of Mac's life will take place on Sunday, September 13th from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. For details, please email [email protected] for location of the celebration. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions in honor of Horace McQueen Jr. to the Houston Eye Associates Foundation.
