Jacob Krawtzow, a devout Russian Orthodox Christian, 81 years of age, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2017 in Purcell, Oklahoma. He was born in Kosovo Mitrovica, Yugoslovia on January 6, 1936 to Jacob & Sofia Krawtzow, Sr. Jacob came to the USA in 1951 from Germany as an immigrant. Jacob was first in his class from Fort Riley, Kansas National Guard and was offered full scholarship at New York Westpoint Military Academy. He opted instead to work, start a family and build his own home. Jacob retired from the Civil Service at Tinker AFB in December 1987 after 26 years of service. He enjoyed gardening, working on cars, watching war history and old western movies. He also enjoyed Russian Cossack and ballroom dancing as a teenager. He loved Russian, Serbian, and old American music. He was an excellent cook and winemaker. He was strong willed, stubborn and held a very strong Russian Orthodox faith. He loved his travels to Russia, attending church, talking about his family history and spending time with his family.
Jacob is survived by his wife: Patsy Jane Krawtzow; Sons: Peter, Jacob, Jr. and Alexay. Daughters: Kathy, Lydia and Mara. Son-in-law: Brian. Also grandsons: Nicholas, Andrew; granddaughters: Sophia, Cynthia and Kristina: Great granddaughter Braelyn; Great grandson Landon, other relatives and all of his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Jacob & Sofia, 3 brothers: Dobrevoy, Branko and Peter; 5 sisters: Natasha, Florence, Katherine, Maria and Luba. His son: Michael.
Jacob's great uncle, on his mother's side, was Archbishop Dimitry Dobroserdov, who has been canonized a Saint by the Russian Orthodox Church in the 20th century together with many martyrs, confessors and the devotees in Russia. We believe that our Church has a special grace from God to be awarded such an honor – to have a Russian saint among our parishioners not only in spirit, but also by birth.
Prayer service scheduled for Sunday, January 15th at 3:00 p.m. at the Wadley Funeral Home, 303 W. Washington, Purcell, Oklahoma 73080. Father Jeremy Davis of the Holy Ascension Orthodox Christian Church.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 19, 2017, 12:30 p.m. at St. Vladimir Russian Orthodox Church, 24 Tidwell Road, Houston, Texas 77022. Father Lubomir Kupec
