Jane Adams Obituary

JANE NOBLE ADAMS, long-time physical education instructor and coach at Longview High School, died Tuesday in Dallas. She was 76. Born in Newellton, Louisiana on Oct. 10, 1926, she came by her familiar nickname early. Her father, Dr. William Davis Noble, said she was "as cute as a bug," a description that remained with her the rest of her life. A voracious reader of the sports section and devoted fan of the Longview Lobos, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Oilers and Astros as well as her alma mater, LSU, Bug could talk with authority on any of the above subjects, and did so without hesitation. Life of the party and feisty, with a quick tongue, she was never judgmental unless you needed to hear it. Still, she always thought of others first and was the last to leave when help was needed. Bug's closest friends were of all ages and came from all walks of life. But her legion of admirers stem mostly from the years she spent teaching and coaching at Longview, from 1947 until she retired in 1983. From that point in her long and interesting life, she devoted herself almost entirely to her family, which she loved above all else, living in Houston until 1997, when she moved to Dallas. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jenny Adams Crain; a brother, William Davis Noble, Jr.; a sister, Caroline Noble Shields; father William Davis Noble and mother, Jenny Lynch Noble, as well as Joseph Scippio Adams, father of their three children. She is survived by daughter, Jane Adams Butter and her husband, Zane Ryan Butter, son, William Noble Adams and his wife, Brecce Wells Adams, and son-in-law, Bluford Walter Crain; Her grandchildren, Bluford Walter Crain, IV, Jane Lynch Crain, Zane Ryan Butter, Jr., William Adams Butter, Joe Wells Adams, William Noble Adams, Jr. and Jenny Lynch Adams. Services will be 12 Noon Friday at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jonathan Jehorek and Dr. W. D. O'Neal officiating with burial at Rosewood Park. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O.Box 1006, Longview, TX 75606. Rader Funeral Home P. O. Box 609 Longview, Texas 75606 903-753-3373
