Jane Pruitt Wichlep was born in Abilene, Texas on July 5, 1943, the daughter of Francis and Edith Pruitt. She was an active member of Abilene's First Baptist Church where she participated in Sunday school and choir. Jane commenced piano lessons at a young age and developed into an especially talented piano player. She also studied and loved ballet. She participated in numerous musical productions and talent competitions. Jane was a cheerleader and graduated from Abilene High School with honors in 1962.
Jane was an avid reader of early English Literature. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Baylor University in 1965.
While at Baylor she met and after graduation, married John O. Houchins with whom she had a son, John Walker of Winston Salem, NC and a daughter, Heather Houchins Morrow of Houston, TX. In 1983, Jane married Fred Wichlep of Galveston, TX.
Jane was a devoted and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend to many. She had a keen mind and a wonderful sense of humor. Jane was a runner and exercise enthusiast. She enjoyed hobbies including ballet classes, playing Bridge, attending the Opera, traveling abroad and reading. To my 2nd mother, the one that also raised me to be loving, kind, and a proper woman of integrity. Jane was the kindest and most caring sweet and FUN soul. She amazed me constantly with her talent of ballet, her keen knowledge of all and her ability to know of what it means to work smart eloquently. She taught me nurturing, something she has gifted me into my own life with my children. Heather & Walker have been blessed with a wonderful mother and friend. A mother as such cannot be replaced. To her friends and family~you know the gift she is.....and will always be. I love Jane. She provided the most beautiful safe and loving home full of Christ and His blessings. I love Mrs. Houchins forever always.

Dear Heather and Walker and family circle,
I am very sorry to hear of your mother's passing. I knew her only, of course, through your aunt Janice, but she was a lovely woman. My deepest condolences on your loss.
