JED ALLEN Obituary

JED HANDEL ALLEN, a resident of Galveston Island passed away in Houston, TX on August 10, 2010. Jed was born October 5, 1957, in Port Arthur, TX and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1975. He and his high school sweetheart married and raised their two daughters in Clear Lake City, TX. Jed's family was his joy. He cherished them and his devotion was absolute. His unwavering integrity and diligence marked his life both professionally and personally. Jed was loved by all who knew him for his kindness, humility, sense of humor, and strength. We will always be grateful for the gift of his life.Survivors include his wife Joan Mabry Allen of 33 years; his daughter, Jana Leigh Allen, and her fiancé, Jake Lester; his daughter Julie Allen Russell, and her husband Mathew Russell; his mother Virginia Allen; his brothers Steve and David Allen; their wives Corinna and Denise; his sister in law Pam Mabry Bergman, and her husband Kim Bergman; his nieces and nephews, Steve Allen, Michael Allen, Lindsey Allen, Kassie Bergman, David Mabry Elliott, and John Bergman. Also numerous cousins and many friends he considered his family; as well as Shorty, Lucy, Max and Doc.The family is grateful for the competent and caring staff at The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR); as well as the professionalism and compassion of Sean Savitz, MD., Susan Alderman, RN., Pratik Doshi, MD., and Nneka L Ifejika-Jones, MD.On Saturday August 28, 2010 family and friends will gather at the Bay Oaks Country Club, 14545 Bay Oaks Blvd, Houston, TX 77059 to celebrate Jed's life. Visitation 3:00- 6:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to www.pawshouston.org.

Jed you will be missed by all that knew you at Conn's. I learned a lot from you that I used at my job and in my life. Your sense of humor was unmatched and you helped me laugh away a bad day. You helped me be a better husband and a better father to my kids by the example you showed me in the way you cherished your wife Joan and your girls. God bless your family and give them strength.
