Jerrie Collins Obituary
1928-2016
Jerrie Elizabeth Hejl Collins passed away Aug. 10, 2016 in Brenham, TX with family at her side.
She was born in Seaton, TX to Jerry Edwin Hejl and Alba Kopecky Hejl on Feb. 21, 1928. Jerry grew up in El Campo, TX and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a degree in Slavonic Languages.
While working in Houston, she met Jerry Hicks Collins on a blind date. They were married Sept. 7, 1952. Jerry's work as a geophysicist in the oil and gas industry took them to several places in Louisiana, New Mexico and Texas. They moved to Houston in 1973 where Jerrie spent over 40 years, moving to Brenham in March 2015 to live with her daughter Carol. She and Jerry celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary before he passed away in 2001.
While raising four children, Jerrie worked for many years teaching Russian and working as an executive assistant for several companies including Abercrombie Oil and ARCO. After retiring, Jerrie enjoyed volunteering at House of Amos and as a Spanish/English instructor, as well as writing, reading, painting and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by: son John (Sherry) Collins, and children Ryan and Lindsey; daughter Carol (Mark) Jense; son Jay (Julie) Collins, and children Christopher and Keri; and daughter Laura (Greg) Jurasin.
Memorials are requested to Hospice Brazos Valley, 302 E. Blue Bell Rd., Brenham, TX 77833 or Redeemer Church, 2305 S. Day St. #211, Brenham, TX 77833.
Memorial service will be Sat., Aug. 20, at 10 a.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer St., Brenham, TX. 979.836.3611 www.BrenhamMemorialChapel.com

The New Horizons Sunday School class at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston is sad to hear Jerrie has left us.
Jerrie was so special to us and such a dedicated worker at the House of Amos.
