Jimmie Charles Moore
10/12/1932 - 09/16/2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jimmie Charles "JC" Moore on Tuesday, the 16th of September 2025. Born on the 12th of October 1932, in Jay, Florida, to Roy and Inez Moore, Jimmie was the eldest of four children and a natural leader from the beginning. In high school, he was elected senior class president - a reflection of the admiration he earned early on which would follow him throughout his life.
After graduating, Jimmie moved to Houston, where a new chapter of life awaited him. It was there he met Janet Richardson, who would become his beloved wife. Together, they raised seven children and enjoyed over forty-four years of marriage, until Janet's passing in 1994. Their life was full of faith, love, and family. Jimmie later married Gretchen Bunch in 1998 and their union brought many joyful years until Gretchen's passing in 2018.
A proud graduate of the University of Houston, Jimmie began his career at Humble Oil, later Exxon. He owned and operated a Montrose-area service station for over thirty years, becoming an admired fixture in the community and was sometimes lovingly referred to by his customers as the "Mayor of Montrose." His professionalism and leadership were nationally recognized as he was named Exxon Dealer of the Year, served on Exxon's Dealer's Council, and was proudly featured on billboards and in advertisements.
Faith was the cornerstone of Jimmie's life. Early on, he was an active member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, where he and Janet met lifelong friends. Later, he joined St. Michael's Catholic Church, where he enjoyed Bible study and served on the Parish Council. Jimmie's down-to-earth charm, kindness, honesty, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life brought him friends, young and old.
In retirement, Jimmie continued his legacy of giving. As a master gardener, he established the gardens at Casa de Esperanza with his buddy, Tim Knott, and shared the bounty - especially the prized tomatoes - with family and friends. He and Tim were honored to be named Volunteers of the Year by Casa de Esperanza and later on, Casa recognized Janet and Jimmie at their annual Gala for their many years of dedicated service. Jimmie also volunteered for twenty-two years with the Chaplain Corps at MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he was named as the hospital's first-ever VIP Volunteer of the Year.
Jimmie was a wonderful Pawpaw to his grandchildren and great-grandkids - helping with carpools, sleepovers and coloring contests, acting silly and never turning down a hair comb over or a tumble on the floor.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Janet Richardson Moore; his second wife, Gretchen Bunch Moore; son-in-law, Vince Hefley; and grandson-in-law, Kirby Taylor.
He is survived by his seven children, Margaret Colvin (Mac), Jim Moore (Jerri), Theresa Frierson (Ray), Marian Hefley (Vince ), Richard Moore (Lee Ann), Michael Moore (Kathryn), and John Moore (Stassa); twelve grandchildren, Jennifer Gunter, Elizabeth Taaffe, Matthew Colvin, Andrew Frierson, Helen Taylor, Douglas Moore, Patrick Moore, Jack Moore, Luke Moore, Michael Moore, Mary Helen Moore, and Margaret Moore; and fourteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Jackie Moore (Joann); sisters, Beverly Ryan Caten (Ron), and Kathy Phillips McGill (Ken); as well as numerous loving nieces, nephews, and the extended Bunch family.
The Moore family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at Brazos Towers at Bayou Manor and Houston Hospice, whose kindness and care meant so much in Jimmie's final chapter. Whether through a kind word, a homegrown gift from his garden, or a hug, Jimmie lived a life grounded in faith, generosity, and love. His memory will continue to inspire, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
