Joan Crane Obituary

Joan Kelly Crane passed away on January 13, 2012 after a brief illness. With an unwavering lifelong faith, she was ready to be reunited with those who have gone before her. As a young woman, Joan developed a strong faith and sense of ethics. She was outspoken in her beliefs and was dedicated to helping the less fortunate. She enjoyed a simple, unassuming life in awe of God's creations in nature and conscientious in the use of her talents to better the world.
Joan was born in the Bronx, NY, raised in Glen Rock, NJ and graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in journalism and political science. She married James Edward Crane of Sherman, NY in 1953 and had three children.
Joan lived in Nassau Bay from 1964-1973 and then in the Clear Lake area again from 1994-2012. She was an active member of the community and her church, as well as an avid gardener, bird watcher, reader and swimmer.
She is survived by her children: Dr. John Crane of Buffalo, NY; Julie Crane Middaugh of Clear Lake City, TX and Jim Crane of Albany, GA. She has 4 grand daughters and a great grand daughter, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Joan's life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. at Webster Presbyterian Church, 201 E. NASA Pkwy, Webster, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Webster Presbyterian Church, Joan Crane Memorial Fund.

Joan joined the Nassau Bay Garden Club in the 1990s when I was a member and made quite an impression with her compost pile and gardens. We'll always remember how she got Beautification Day going and how much it has meant to the city all these years. So long, Joan!!!
