Joe Bowden Obituary

Joe Bowden
08/22/1932 - 08/13/2024
Joe Allen Bowden, 91, of Missouri City, Texas, was born in Ingleside, Texas, on August 22, 1932, and was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
Joe served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, and then attended the University of Texas, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration, in 1959. He then moved to the Houston area, to begin his career at Reed Tool Company, where he met his future bride, Carolyn Valentour. They married in 1960, and settled in the Houston area, where they spent 61 years together, filled with family, friends, and love.
Joe's career moved him through the oil field services and chemical industries. After retirement, he spent many years in the management consultant area. Along with his long career, he was past president of the Houston Personnel Association, The South Texas Girl Scout Council, Oyster Creek Rotary Club, The Missouri City Exchange Club, The Fort Bend County Texas Ex's, Quail Valley Men's Golf Association and the Quail Valley Senior Men's Golf Association. He was also active in the American Legion Post 294.
Joe was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church in Missouri City. He lived his life as a faithful servant of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and served on numerous committees throughout his life. He had a deep love for his family and God. He enjoyed golf, making three holes in one, and the time spent with all of his golfing friends. Joe also cherished his time with his grandchildren. He loved taking his granddaughters on dinner dates, cheering on the Longhorns with his grandsons, and golf cart rides with whoever made it out to the golf cart first. He was an active participant in their lives, from golf tournaments with his oldest granddaughters to traveling to see his grandsons play football. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow, and was thrilled to see each of them thrive throughout each stage of childhood and adulthood.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; his parents, Burl and Laurie Bowden; and his sister, Betty Bowden Welborn. He is survived by his sister, Carolyn Allen (Kenneth); daughters, Cara Quirch (Jorge), Laura Earwood (Mark); son, Brent Bowden (Susan); seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at First United Methodist Church, in Missouri City.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made in his memory to First United Methodist Church, in Missouri City.
