Joe Jamail talked to me about a legal case in the year 2000. He was referred to me by an international friend and the high pressure natural gas pipeline industry. Joe gave me the time of day and he respectfully declined to counsel me any further after a lengthy heartfelt phone conversation.
To the Jamail family, I am sorry.

My sincere condolences to the Jamail family for the sad loss of their father and grandfather.

I first met Joe Jamail at Memorial Stadium as a sophomore football player at the University of Texas; he was visiting Coach Royal. There was no bigger Longhorn fan. A few years later when I began to practice law he was always there whenever I needed advice or a helping hand. After I was appointed to the bench he supported my election with both his name and money. One of my greatest experiences was recognizing Joe and his wonderful wife Leigh for their many contributions to the University of Texas, as the keynote speaker at the Longhorn Football Banquet in Coach Brown's first year as head coach of the Longhorn Football Team.

Joe was a serious lawyer with a heart as big as they come; a true lion of the law. It was an honor knowing him, may he rest in peace, and God bless his family.

My deepest sympathy to the Jamail family. What a blessing and inspiration he was to so many people. He was quite a character with the biggest heart, truly kind soul. He will be missed by many. I did not have the privilege of meeting him but spoke with him on the phone several times a few months before he passed. He could not help me but recommended another lawyer. I was so impressed that he actually cared enough to try and help me find someone. I had not had good experiences up to this point. I would have loved to have meet him and had a scotch with him.

Dahr,Randall and Rob, so sad to hear about your Dad. I know you will miss him so much. Y'all are in my prayers. Love, Sissy Pletcher Ronan

What a lovely person Mr. Jamail was. In my time of need, he was a lighted path to peace. In spite of the weight he carried in the community, he was a plain speaking human being, unselfish, and caring. The world was a better place with him in it.Heaven has a new angel.

A great loss to the community and most of all the Jamail family. Cousin Joe was a frequent visitor at my parents Helen and Louie Jamails bag home in his bachelor days, and relished family visits at his parents, my aunt Marie and uncle Joe, home. Last time I saw Joe was at a small family reunion where I bought old family photos that delighted him and prompted stories in his humorous style. At one point photos were being taken, and being taller than Joe I remained seated. He leaned over, grabbed my hand and said "stand tall." That was Joe.

In July 2007, My husband Bill and myself came to the Maestro's office to sign a contract to represent us in a DOT E.D. Issue on our Cypress Ranch Property. We all met with Mr. Dixon Montague of V.E. To go over this. It was rather Large - eoAc taking along a mile of our property fronting U.S. 290. Bill told your father that he was going to have open heart surgery at Texas Heart inst. in Sept.to replace an Aortic Valve and that Dr. David Ott was to do it. Your dad said "David is a good friend of mine, and I will call him to take good care of my special client." He did this and David said, "Joe, Bill will do fine and I'll keep you posted. And he did just that. This shows how great Joe Jamail was to take time off to call and follow up on his client. For this, we will always be grateful and thankful.

In July 1997 your father represented me in a personal injury vs TXI The day my husband sign the contract he said lets go to the hospital and have Monique sign the papers to. He told my husband let's take my car. We would visit the Maestro around Christmas time. That's when I would give the Maestro gifts with Texas themes. And I was able to surprise him with giving he his favorite candy"Werther" It was a secret between us. On his Oct 19, 1998 on his 78 I was able to surprise him with the stadium. That was when my husband was helping him get it out of the box. Bill be careful your going to break my goal post. Monique just gave it to me and your going to break it. That's when he leaned over and said I am going to have to fight the boys for it they will want to take it from me. But the stadium survived. I understand it is in his trophy case. Along with a clock with a picture of the stadium on it. Along with a Texaco pocket knife, which he carried around for two weeks showing it off, it is in the trophy case. It was fun surprising him with gifts.
We looked forward, to his Christmas calls wishing us Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We still have the one he called last year. He was never to busy to take our calls, If something came up the Maestro would take care of it for us. Every time we would visit. He wildest time for a photo op. When I went to the hospital your father came by the house twice, but I was at the hospital so I missed him. That was so sweet of him. My husband fondly reminisce about time we spent with your father and when your father would call. I guess youe ears were burning we were just talking about you. We think about your father on a daily bases. The last time we saw your father at his office he said As long as we own the ranch and as along as he was alive he would represent us.Then my husband show him picture of our art Chinese collectionAnd ask what I was going to do with it I said I don't know. He said he he wanted to build a museum to put his wife collection and my husband said he would put any of our collection if he wanted . We even told him we would build the museum on 240Ac. 0n 290.But it looks like he didn't get a chance to. Your father will remain in our hearts forever. We will never forget him We will all miss your father he has touched so many people, his loss will be felt by all.

Prayers for sweet comfort to Jamail Family. Whether family by DNA or by Texas camaraderie, may peace that passes understanding bring tidings of comfort and joy evermore. The Gutenberg Bible is permanently displayed at The University of Texas at Austin. It is written "God is the finisher of faith". So know in Gaius' generosity and Demetrius' good reputation that the JOE JAMAIL trademark of faith, hope and love to ensure purposeful, enduring, visionary education to all will continue. May peace that passes understanding bring overflowing comfort evermore.

I wanted to extend my wishes to Joe's family and friends. He was truly one of a kind and his legacy will live on for as long as the University of Texas exists. Fortunately I never needed his professional services but he was a true Longhorn benefactor and friend to 1000's in and around Houston for his generous deeds that were made without any publicity or fanfare.
He had a humble side to him when it came to helping others which ran counter intuitive to his personality. I met him many times casually in and around Allen Center as he came and went from the parking garage. He led a life many of us can only dream but he lived it honorably with class and distinction. I can only smile and chuckle when I think of Joe.

We will keep his legacy alive and will remember him fondly.

I want to extend my condolences to Dahr, Randall, and Rob and their families, to Florence, and to William. Years have passed since we have gathered together to become reacquainted. Nevertheless, your passing emphasizes the bond that we feel as Jamails and family no matter how far away. We have a shared history and you were a shining star in the family, famous,- and a bit infamous. Attorneys, I have met over the years in Washington, D.C., have been astounded that you are my first cousin.
One particular memory of you which was filmed by my father on an old Bell and Howell movie camera is of you carrying me on your shoulders in a rare snowfall in San Antonio. When visiting your parents, I would always ask for you and I was told that: "You were a busy man." And you were, very busy.
May God rest your soul. Your loving cousin, Vicky Ann
