Joe Pouzar Obituary

JOE EMIL POUZAR, SR., departed this life the evening of April 1, 2006 following a two-month struggle with widespread renal cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife Detonne B. Pouzar of Pearland, his son Joe Emil Pouzar, Jr., M.D. and wife Linda C. Pouzar, M.D. and adored granddaughters, Carol Lynette and Kimberly Jo. Joe was preceded in death by his father Emil J. Pouzar, and his brother, Patrick Pouzar. Mourning his loss are his mother, Elsie N. Pouzar of Little Rock, AR; and his sister, Jane P. Terrell of Murfreesboro, AR. Joe Pouzar was born January 2, 1938 and lived most of his early years in Little Rock, Arkansas. He completed his bachelor's degree in civil engineering at the University of Arkansas where he met his wife Detonne. His early professional years with the Corps of Engineers brought him to Houston where he remained an engineer par excellence for the Johnson Space Center for 42 years. In retirement, he offered his expertise in information and business management to assist his son's practice, Clear Lake Family Physicians. He will always be remembered as the most loving, generous husband, father, grandfather, and friend as well as the epitome of selfless, humble servant hood. The family wishes to thank all those who took part in his medical care at St. Joseph Hospital, Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, and at home. We are forever grateful for the outpouring of love from friends and family during this difficult time. Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 10030 Scarsdale Blvd, Houston, TX, 77089, on Tuesday, April 4, 2006. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cokesbury United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice.

Heartfelt sympathy to Joe's dear family he loved you all so much. My memories of Joe were how he always challenged me to be my absolute best in all I did at NASA and for him. He was one of a kind. You knew when Joe walked into a room, an idea was going to be born. I am thankful for the greatness he shared with me and I know from his sharing he is home with our Lord. Like the rose, your memory is so beautiful. Love, Bettie M. Carney

I supported Joe as a contractor at NASA. I will always remember him as a kind, warm, and decent man. He had a sense of humor that not everyone saw. He enjoyed his high-tech "toys" and making things work to save a few dollars. He called me and a few others "kemosabe", which means "friend". I will miss Joe.

As one of many who knew him as "Papa Joe" at Clear Lake Family Physicians, I can say I will really miss his humor and his generosity. I appreciate how he always made me think. He may have taken me around the block, through the woods, over a hill and across a river to get me there . . . but he did get me there, in his very unique way. My heart goes out to Mrs. Pouzar, Dr. Joe and Dr. Linda, and of course, the joys of his life, Carole and Kimmy. I'm sure there was never a prouder Pa-Pa.
